Minolta Hi-Matic G / Kodak Ektar
Neon sign for the former Aubry Cleaners in downtown Saginaw, MI. Another business now occupies this building, but they have retained the old sign. This is located about two blocks from the Savoy Bar & Grill sign. The details on both this and the Savoy sign are fantastic - something you just don't see in commercial signage anymore.

Training was a very important part of life when you worked for Eastern Electricity and the establishments at Harold Hill (for engineering apprentice training) then at Essendon in Hertfordshire were well utilised.
Essendon Place, near Hatfield, Hertfordshire, UK, was bought by Eastern Electricity in 1961 to bring together the various training facilities for office based staff (as opposed to industrial staff) previously developed by the pre-nationalisation undertakings and, following the addition of a new bedroom wing and sales training shop, was opened in 1962.
All new shop staff spent two weeks learning their trade. This didn't just involve the techniques of selling goods, but how they worked, how electricity was generated and distributed and the organisation of the industry.
This is an early 1960s vacuum cleaner (it would not be appropriate to call it a "Hoover") especially put together with see-through panels so that the staff could see how it works. Shop staff training in depth was done away with at privatisation.
The demonstration vacuum cleaner was donated by me to the Science Museum and was still on display in the basement last time I checked a couple of years ago.

That was something that was told to me a long time ago, more than just once. It bounced around in my head and my childhood innocence wouldn't have any of it.
Back when I was small, I saw everybody fairly. I had no concept of wealth or status, no understanding of the problems that grown-ups face, no care for what the future might bring me. Well, apart from the fact that the decision I made to study or not would result in me getting a refreshing scoop of ice cream or equally refreshing slash of the cane.
Because of that few experiences when growing up, I never pass up the opportunity of greeting the cleaners in my battalion buildings, or thanking the ones that clear my plates, bowls and trays at hawker centres and fast food joints. It's just manners. We're all human.

An Eastern Cleaner Clingfish (Cochleoceps orientalis) on kelp. Bare Island, Botany Bay, NSW
Clingfish have a sucking disc on their underside with which they can anchor themselves to plants and other objects. Cleaner Clingfish are named for their habit of cleaning parasites from the skin of other larger fishes. These tiny fish are easy to approach and photograph, apparently confident their camouflage and tiny size will keep them from being spotted. They first came to my attention only this year, so the strategy obviously works. Now I know what I am looking for, suddenly I am seeing them everywhere. I have seen them cleaning Red Morwong, Eastern Talma, and even a Port Jackson Shark. On occasion they also attach to divers.
