Mother-in-law's tongue is just one of its many names. It even has two scientific names, Sansevieria trifasciata and Sanseveria laurentii. I remember this from childhood around the house, but only paid attention to it when I was googling for plants that could absorb indoor household toxins. I was even more decided to get a pot when I read on the label that it thrives on neglect. My kind of plant is another name you can call it. It is even mentioned in NASA's Clean Air Study. There's even a Ted talk about it, www.ted.com/talks/kamal_meattle_on_how_to_grow_your_own_f... But even before NASA it was used like a spiritual sword, juju, to ward off evil spirits.

With my thoughts firmly fixed on my move to Australia now, and me being stuck indoors at the moment, ive had alot of time for thinking and reminiscing, and re-editing....This is part of the stunning coastline at Leeuwin, in Western Australia, where the Indian ocean meets the Southern Ocean.....it felt real emotional standing here, and I had forgotten just how emotional until seeing this again!!! Words cant describe how beautiful it was!
Today me and my best friend, Wiffsmiff23, decided to do it all over again, only in the North this time rather than the South, do all the stuff we missed last time, well, some of it anyway...Gold Coast, Bungle Bungles etc....it cant come quick enough :o)

The sun sets behind the Quiver Trees (Aloe dichotoma) in the "Quiver Tree Forest" at Keetmanshoop, Namibia.
Why are they called Quiver Trees?
The Khoisan Bushman people of the Kalahari Desert, hollowed out the succulent branches to make "Quivers" to put their arrows in for hunting game. As there are not a lot of trees and resources in the Desert, they had to use what was available.

Title: Drive less: In case you were a Utah resident and wondered how bad the air quality actually is. PM 2.5 is on the rise and I can feel my body and lungs responding very very poorly. I took this photo at 1pm today and from the valley floor, seeing the mountains is not possible and gray is all we see. The politics are strong on this topic and the citizen-drive is lacking. Just putting it out there that we live in a bowl that is becoming very unbearable and the well being and function of all of us is being suppressed. Amazing the way the air is so clear on many days. Not that many years ago the smog would blanket the area and you would never know the Hollywood sign existed.
Tomorrow is an important day in California. It's election day!
There are several important issues on the ballot this year. Including our next state governor. Out of the many props listed, there is one that resonates with me the most: Prop 23. Here are some key highlights about it:
- Two Texas oil companies, Valero and Tesoro, are initiating Prop 23.
- If passed, this would overturn AB 23, California's clean air act.
- Which in turn will remove many jobs in the clean tech and renewable industry.
- Create more air pollution and increase public health risk.

If you are a registered Californian voter, please make sure you send in your ballot or make it out to the voting booth tomorrow. To make a long story short, I didn't update my information to receive my absentee ballot, therefore, I will not be able to cast my votes. I know I am a bad citizen. :(
I was feeling crafty one night and decided to make this sign. I used construction paper and markers. The hardest part was cutting out the "No on 23" on the black paper for the white to show through. Also, I didn't plan well and barely got "proposition" to fit on the paper. I also remembered I kept 5 masks in my toolbox. It was the perfect prop!
The Green Wall ----- it is made up with over 20,000 plants and 20 varieties including ferns, ivies, creeping fig, spider and club moss, to name a few.

The way I take care of my family is to ensure that the air in the house is clean and also that we are warm. Since we are all seniors these things are very important! Most don't realize just how dirty the air is inside their homes. After looking at the filter on this in just 3 weeks it was full of dust and pet hairs. It really works good!
The Air Doctor reports that it filters viruses, dust, smoke, pollen, mold and bacteria. We have noticed less dust in the house and the air smells fresher too! Just what the Doctor ordered I'd say!
