I had a MAJOR pantry pest infestation. I rarely get them because most of the jars I use are the wire bail hermetically sealing jars- nothing can get into them that you don't put in there yourself. But, as you see, I do have a few things in screw top jars as well. The wire bail jars are very sturdy, last almost forever, but are quite $$. Because we are about to go into heavy budgeting and because we are buying a lot more bulk foods, I splurged and bought a bunch of new big wire bail jars and plenty of replacement gaskets.
I cleaned out everything in the pantry, washed the shelves, got rid of things that were either invaded or just too old, cleaned dirty jars, filled up new ones, and now there's not a bug in there and everything is in good condition.

The switch to the last operating cell at the uranium enrichment facility was manned by Operator Russ Nickell during the shutdown at midday May 30, 2012 in the X-326 Process Building at the Portsmouth site in Piketon.
EM and Ohio Environmental Protection Agency are reviewing decontamination and decommission (D&D) approaches for three buildings that housed the equipment for uranium enrichment that was shut down this spring after operating for 57 years.

Presumably the actual building will start to be demolished in the coming months if not weeks. Meanwhile a few of the local law enforcement aand South Metro Fire agencies have been making use of the empty building for various training drills. On the right is the lovely hunk of 1970s style concrete stairwell connecting the upper and lower parking lots.
A major apartment building project was recently announced for the northeast corner of Grand Ave and Concord Exchange. The project will include completely demolishing the 1970s era office building at 201 as well as removal of the two level surface parking lot adjacent. A new 4 story apartment building will be constructed in it's place. A second building is planned for the neighboring site however that is still in the planning and approval process.

Workers are removing the first of three underground transfer line cleanout boxes, or COBs, from a Hanford tank farm. The project is being paid for with Recovery Act funds.
The COBs are similar to cleanout lines in a sewer system. They provide an opening into the waste transfer lines so they can be cleaned out. The boxes don’t meet current environmental requirements so the access pipes are being capped and the boxes are being removed. Crews will still be able to clean the lines by using underground utility boxes called valve pits.
To remove the COBs, workers have to hand-dig about four feet around them for workers to have enough room to do their jobs. Hand digging ensures underground utilities near the boxes are not damaged.
Workers use special equipment when removing the boxes to ensure no liquids or flammable gases escape. They also use protective bags to cut and remove the COBs and associated drain lines. The project is scheduled to be completed this month.

UGH I feel like I have soo many and I am looking at the shelf thinking Hmmm who should Part with to supply me with some funds.. but the more I look at them the more I dont wanna :( But I need to soon unless I manage to have a nice big closet cleanout cause UGH more Car expenses :( Real life sucks sometimes!

Day 242 of 365: "3 Days Later"
I spent today helping clean out the basement of this home in Manville. Sadly, it was a finished basement...waterlogged rugs, furniture...and we even ripped out the walls because the paneling was destroyed. It was heartbreaking, knowing I was carrying bags of toys that belonged to a child in my daughter's daycare class.
But...I saw it everywhere. I wasn't the only one that went into town to help. My buddy Charles was out in the area getting cleaning kits and more from the Red Cross into the hands of the people who needed it.
It was a tough day...but I saw the best of humanity today.
But not PSE&G. Screw them for shutting off the power to this house that was functioning perfectly, which meant the sump pumps no longer have power and the basement we had just finally gotten dry...was flooding again. I learned that tonight almost another foot had come into the basement from below.
The sump pumps could have handled it...if only PSE&G hadn't cut the power.
But other than that...the rest of what I saw today, was friends, neighbors and family, working together.
When you've lived in the same house for over 20 years, you accumulate massive amounts of junk. Time for a massive cleanout. But I'm adamant that a cleanout won't mean just trucking everything up to Sonoma.
So I did a ruthless purge and organization of our bathroom drawers today. Believe me, this is post Bathroom Holocaust. Because we are a family that can't ever resist stealing all the bottles of shampoo and conditioner from every hotel we stay in. And Andy travels a lot for business. So the only bottles that stayed were the UNOPENED ones. Sad.
But at least I got to some important safety precautions. Like labeling the doggie rectal thermometer (in center front) "Don't Use". I was worried about that.

The plumbers installed a new and better seal on the cleanout for the drainage, which was leaking sewer gas occasionally.
