This is what CEO failure looks like.
And this CEO handled it in the absolute worst possible way. On top of refusing opportunities to keep base operations in place, refusing to listen to inside ideas on how to approach ongoing problems, and acting, well, like a responsible CEO, the dude tucked his tail between his legs and RAN. Literally.
He decided that the best way to close the company was to not tell anyone. He didn't tell us; we all learned about it from one another as we came in that day. He didn't tell building management and stiffed them on back rent. He didn't tell the customer base (which, in turn, leaves the customers' customers in the lurch as well). He didn't tell the board of directors or anyone that had taken a financial risk in investing. He didn't tell any of the partner record labels who were, come to find out, owed royalty payments for some time.
For a chief executive officer, he sure is a coward.

The rain barrels will fill through this pipe. As the water enters into the top of the first rain barrel it will then flow to the other 6 barrels through the 3/4" line at the bottom. There is also a 3/4" overflow behind the 2" pipe that enters the barrel. In the middle of the backyard path there is a cleanout/drain for emptying the system for winter. This is covered by an 18"x18" paver to help protect and locate it.

In place of my trunk (with two large boxes, the last of the big weekend cleanout), here you can see a selection of some of the donation receipts I've collected on my daily trips. I've stopped writing down all the items on the daily cards -- I figure I can come back and reconstruct some of it using the descriptions on Flickr.
Today's boxes contained some excellent 90s nostalgia -- someone is going to get an AWESOME pair of worn-in Doc Martens (which I would have kept except they had a huge hole worn in the crease of the left boot) and a corresponding awesomely 90s sundress. Plus my weird ceramic dolls which I was pretty happy to get rid of -- I'm not sure why I was so attached to them as a kid. If I were a kid today I would totally be that girl with the pristine, fussy American Girl dolls. Back in the day all I had was creepy porcelain dolls (not the cool kind, the ugly kind). Farewell, weirdness.
Also included: a see-through lunchbox of Badtz Maru (sp?) from Hello Kitty, sure to make someone pretty happy, and another assorted box of treasures, office supplies, random crap. It was a batch of stuff I had reviewed/tossed so quickly that I actually looked through it once or twice, when I got to the donation drive-through, just in case my husband had accidentally tossed in something I had meant to keep. But then I realized I was being clingy, didn't want the stuff at all, and swiftly gave it away. Felt good.

We started cleaning out an entire winter's load of debris on the patio this weekend. The problem (as *I* see it) - is that we have too much stuff on the patio, and nowhere to put it while we clean. So it's a bit like those sliding plastic word puzzles, where you have to move this, before you can move that, before you can move this...So it took 4 times as long as it should have, and left me longing to toss out everything and start over.
Still - it will be worth it to have a comfortable place to sit and have that rare cup of coffee or brunch - or a glass or two of Muscato with friends.

The Great Photo Cleanout Continued...
So, I'm still working on the whole organized picture files thing... hahaha.
Decided to just randomly pick a few never posted photos and upload them to a blog. Turned into a sort of photo commentary thing:

We spent an afternoon clearing and cleaning out the basement. It was...not like this before. I'd been saving all of our moving boxes but Andy convinced me to finally get rid of them. I also got more bins (I'm obsessed with bins!) for the last stuff in boxes. I tossed some stuff and have some to get rid of too. (We also still have some larger baby/kid items around the corner from this area that we need to sell.) But every time I go to the basement, I feel so happy to see just this neatly stacked and organized area instead of a messy maze of bins and boxes and crap!
