BR Class 117 Pressed Steel DMU WR set no. B450, Westbury, 9 September 1986. The Railcar Association Website (http://www.railcar.co.uk/his100-109/101ops2.htm) suggests that the centre car of this three-car unit (59539) would have been a Class 101 (Metropolitan-Cammell) TC(L). The set (possibly without 59539) was transferred to Tyseley (Birmingham) in 1987, becoming T315. The car numbering in 1986 would have been: W51352 / 59539 / 51394.
317708 in platform 9 at Kings Cross just arrived working 0706 from Peterborough with 317341 on 4 September 2014. 8 car trains in the cattle shed offer limited opportunities for fotting, but at least the area under the canopy between platforms 8 and 9 has finally been tidied up after years obstructed by brick walls, barriers or temporary fences. I think the last time that the area under the canopy was this uncluttered was before electrification in the 1970s, when a train in platform 9 would have been a class 31 on blockenders or many Craven twins strung together.

A class 118 DMU stands at Exeter St. Davids on a working to Barnstaple. The all yellow livery is an advertisement for British Telecom, and I believe that this was the first time in the UK that an "all-over" advertising livery was used on the railway.

GM Class 66/0 3,200 hp Co-Co No.66 091 of DBS in EWS livery passing Leamington Spa on the 6O42 Halewood - Southampton East Docks car carriers, 27/9/14.
A snatched view of Class 313 063 departing from Hertford North on a service to Moorgate. This was probably my last chance to phot these long-serving units as they are due for imminent replacement. The Class 313s entered service at the same time as the much-lauded HSTs, and while operating less glamorous commuter services, probably have been every bit as successful in their +42-year career. The design still looks fresh too. My only personal complaint was the design of hopper windows, which could make for a very draughty travelling environment in the cooler months.
