Sicily. Piazza Armerina
Villa Romana del Casale
Late spring break.
Semi-circular portico
This space introduced the rooms of the master's southern apartment and its semi-circular form functioned to connect the various rooms that it opened onto. As is often the case in the villa, practicality is not detached from architectural precision: the little courtyard was enriched with a fountain and a nymphaeum that provided cool air and a constant supply of water.

This colorful topographical map of the Moon is centered on the lunar farside, the side not seen from planet Earth. That view is available to the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter though, as the spacecraft's wide angle camera images almost the entire lunar surface every month. Stereo overlap of the imaging has allowed the computation of topographical maps with coverage between 80 degrees north and south latitude. The results have about a 300 meter resolution on the lunar surface and 10 to 20 meter elevation accuracy. Data closer to the north and south poles is filled in using the orbiter's laser altimeter. In this map, white, red, green, and purple represent progressively lower elevations. In fact, the large circular splotch tending to purple hues at the bottom is the farside's South Pole-Aitken Basin. About 2500 kilometers in diameter and over 12 kilometers deep, it is one of the largest impact basins in the Solar System.
A wall light to alter the mood of a room
FontanaArte Lunaire Lamp (2013)
By Ferréol Babin
Named so for evoking the effect of an eclipse, the wall-mounted fixture consists of two parts: a large concave circular reflector with a cylindrical light source fixed in the center. Because the cylindrical bulb is illuminated on the sides instead of forward-facing, users can control exactly where the light goes. If the cylinder is pushed back, the light ends up behind the reflector, softly diffused against the wall. For a stronger effect, users can pull the cylinder forward to concentrate the light within the reflector. In short, it’s a lamp that’s also its own dimmer switch.

One of the rare days in Winter that we had sun and I got this and rainbows all over the room.. It's beautiful to see...
A tondo (plural "tondi" or "tondos") is a Renaissance term for a circular work of art, either a painting or a sculpture. The word derives from the Italian rotondo, "round."
I designed and built this circular panel for use in a private residence. It was installed in an existing round window opening of the customer's home. ***This photo is a recently shot and re-edited duplicate of my original print, which had been taken in years past with a non-digital camera.***

I especially like the symmetry of two of the plants here, as though the abandoned house is still trying to keep up with the Jones.
I don't like to try and tell people how to view images. But just for information, this is part of a set I am compiling of these sadly derelict homes:
