Enjoying a day of kadoodling with dad. We're at the Fiddler's
gathering in Battlefield, IN. Lots of home made instruments & sweet
people telling stories about how & why they made them, where the wood
came from. The first one we saw looked like it was strung with
plastic. He said it was weed wacker cord. It sounded great; nice bass
sound.
Here's the face of a cigarbox fiddle, made from a box of from one of
my favorite cigar brands, Avo.
There's a line up of 4 bands this afternoon. The first band, The
Freight Hoppers, is playing bluegrass with lyrics like "The girl in
the red dress, she's the darling of my heart, Wish my wife was dead"
This is a cigar box that I repainted as a birthday gift for someone. The reference was a photo of a mother panda with her baby out of a W.W.F (World Wildlife foundation) Flier.
I painted bamboo around the pandas and on the front of the box.

I want to make a rock style cigar box guitar. I don't know if this is the box that I really want but it is nice. If I don't use it I should be able to find a mnother use for it.

I found these at more than one shop. They are a bigger box, around 11 inch. They are also well made and would be a good box to begin with. There should be plenty more available. I would guess that the cigars are less expensive and of decent quality.
Because of poor planning, i needed to put in a finishing nail to guide the middle string. The guitar is currently tuned to an open C: C G E.
The main bar of Murphy’s Bleachers has been at the corner of N. Sheffield and W. Waveland avenues since 1930s. It started out as Ernie’s Bleachers, selling hot dogs and beer by the pail. The original hot dog stand was stolen from W. Peterson and N. Elston avenues and set up on the corner opposite the entrance to the Wrigley Field bleachers. During World War II, Ernie and a group of building inspectors built a real tavern, a cigarbox-shaped neighborhood bar that is the original building. He sold it at the end of the war, and it became JB’s Bleachers for a couple of years until JB got sick and sold it back to Ernie. In 1965 it became Ray’s Bleachers after Ernie sold to Ray Meyers It soon achieved renown status as home of the Bleacher Bums, who surfaced during the Cub’s race for the pennant in 1969. Former CPD Officer Jim Murphy purchased the location from Ray in 1980.
My brother and I had hot dogs at Ray’s before the 1964 Packers – Bears game, having learned the previous season that vendors couldn’t get down to our seats because fans moved the portable chairs into the aisle. I ate there once with my daughter during the early 1990s; after a mix-up on how to order, to which the proprietor asked me to order like “a normal person,” I haven’t been back since.
All boxes cost between $1 or $2. All boxes are between 9 and 11 inches long. They are all between 1 1/2 and 2 inches thick.

An altered cigar box filled with goodies.

I had been looking for this one but this is my first find. After I noticed the price sticker in the box, $20 for a stick, I might know why they are a little scarce.
The stain went down beatuifully on the neck and somewhat less beautifully on the body. It looks a bit worn, which isn't a bad thing. I came up for a solution for the sound hole when i found out i couldn't cut cleanly through the body. We'll see how it all looks when it goes together.
Given as gift.
This box contains multicolored rice lights, as do all my cigar box assemblages. Unfortunately, I am not a good enough photographer to get a good shot with the lights on.
