We had a phone call from Bethan's partner, James, this morning, as his back was bad again, and he needed medication to be collected for him. I enjoyed the drive over to Witney, stopping at Coln on the way to post some birthday cards. I love listening to my music in the car, and used Siri and the phone to get me to the pharmacy - technology is great when it works! There wasn't much I could do to help James (apart from the washing up), once I'd dropped the tablets off, so I then popped in to Sainsbury's on the way home to get some things I can't get in other supermarkets.
After lunch, I sewed a piece of satin ribbon into the neck band of a blouse I bought yesterday in a charity shop. The top will go really well with the dress I've got for the wedding, but the sequins were too itchy, so I'd bought the ribbon to sew in, and that works just fine.
Mike & I have some new lime green Crocs, which are fun for spring, so I had to get a scarf to go with them ;-)
Under a spreading chestnut-tree
The village smithy stands;
The smith, a mighty man is he,
With large and sinewy hands;
And the muscles of his brawny arms
Are strong as iron bands.
His hair is crisp, and black, and long,
His face is like the tan;
His brow is wet with honest sweat,
He earns whate'er he can,
And looks the whole world in the face,
For he owes not any man.

Unripe chestnut pods on the chestnut tree near the front of our house in Kitahiroshima. The typhoon that came through yesterday wasn't very strong by the time it got here (the eye passed over us, and we got a lot of wind later, but no where near as much as on the 5th of September). So, the tree is still full of chestnut pods. I suspect the tree belongs to the same person who owns the wonderful vegetable garden across our road - it's going to be a popular tree in a few more weeks.

This is an old Chestnut tree that grows near Torwood Castle . I wonder what happened to make it grow like this but it makes it an interesting subject .
Shortly after this photo was taken this chestnut burr was removed from the tree and stepped on until its nuts popped out.

On our drive through the beautiful countryside north west of Les Vans, we stopped at this beautiful spot looking down the Thines valley for our picnic lunch.
The photographer must have been standing in the middle of Route 10. This was taken just a few miles outside Huntington WV.
The house in the background was torn down a few years ago to allow for the widening of WV State Route 10 from 2 to 4 lanes.
Our blizzard today blew itself out just in time to clear up for the sunset. This is a time-lapse video from our weather cam from about 3:30 PM to 4:15 PM of today's sunset.
Location: Broadway Village, Worcestershire, England, the jewel of the Cotswolds.
Under the spreading chestnut tree,
Where I knelt upon my knee,
We were as happy as could be,
Under the spreading chestnut tree. (Anon)

One of the many chairs that invite you to sit and linger on the Jardin du Luxembourg, Paris, France.

This is the garden where Marius meets Jean Valjean and Cosette in Les Misérables
The garden is famed for its calm atmosphere. On the little pond children play with miniature boats. The garden contains various statues and sculptures. Surrounding the pond are a series of statues of former French queens

Samels Farm is located just outside of Traverse City, Michigan in the town of Williamsburg. The site has been declared a Pioneer Farm, meaning that the original families have maintained continuous ownership of the property for at least 100 years. Samels Farm has also been placed on the National Register of Historic Places due to the numerous Native American artifacts discovered from several unique cultures - some dating back to 9000 B. C.
The Samels family did all of the work needed around a working farm, including blacksmithing. These barn door handles are an example of the craftsmanship quality and style of the Samels family.

Another enjoyable lockdown day. Mike helped finish off the cleaning which I was halfway through doing when I hurt my back (not the cause of it though). We enjoyed a walk over to Coln Stores in the afternoon, and I was able to manage it very well. Then we made some plant pots out of old plastic milk containers, so I could repot my succulents. I'd bought some pots for them ages ago, but they were too small. We'll see how these do :-)
Over 10m (32ft) in circumference and more than 20m (65ft) high, making it one of the largest in the UK. One of the ancient Chestnut trees in Carshalton Park, planted early in the seventeenth century to provide fodder for livestock. The 'Hobbit' door on the right hand side was added to prevent the numerous arson attacks that have been attempted in the hollow centre.
