On our drive through the beautiful countryside north west of Les Vans, we stopped at this beautiful spot looking down the Thines valley for our picnic lunch.

My chestnut tree in August

Virágzó szelídgesztenyefa (Castanea sativa) / Catkins of Sweet Chestnut tree, Ecser (P6070042)

These huge chestnut trees are situated on the road from the Curragh Camp to Newbridge.

The photographer must have been standing in the middle of Route 10. This was taken just a few miles outside Huntington WV.

The house in the background was torn down a few years ago to allow for the widening of WV State Route 10 from 2 to 4 lanes.

Location: Broadway Village, Worcestershire, England, the jewel of the Cotswolds.

We were as happy as could be,

Samels Farm is located just outside of Traverse City, Michigan in the town of Williamsburg. The site has been declared a Pioneer Farm, meaning that the original families have maintained continuous ownership of the property for at least 100 years. Samels Farm has also been placed on the National Register of Historic Places due to the numerous Native American artifacts discovered from several unique cultures - some dating back to 9000 B. C.

The Samels family did all of the work needed around a working farm, including blacksmithing. These barn door handles are an example of the craftsmanship quality and style of the Samels family.

Another enjoyable lockdown day. Mike helped finish off the cleaning which I was halfway through doing when I hurt my back (not the cause of it though). We enjoyed a walk over to Coln Stores in the afternoon, and I was able to manage it very well. Then we made some plant pots out of old plastic milk containers, so I could repot my succulents. I'd bought some pots for them ages ago, but they were too small. We'll see how these do :-)

Over 10m (32ft) in circumference and more than 20m (65ft) high, making it one of the largest in the UK. One of the ancient Chestnut trees in Carshalton Park, planted early in the seventeenth century to provide fodder for livestock. The 'Hobbit' door on the right hand side was added to prevent the numerous arson attacks that have been attempted in the hollow centre.

The Formby Parish Council has been concerned for some time about the health of the Chestnut Tree opposite Boots in Chapel Lane Formby. So in June 2021 they called in Bruce Hatton an arboriculturalist. He carried out BITE infusion and found Enerbite take up was slow, which indicates dysfunction of the vascular system and there were significant dead branches evident.

At the time he recommended that by improving the irrigation then there may be some improvement, however this has not proved possible (residents even asked the local fire service, who were unable to help). It has been a very dry summer here and the Parish Council contacted a tree surgeon later in July to get a quote for removal of the deadwood as advised by Bruce, however the tree surgeon advised that there was also a major dead branch overhanging the road which if this fell could cause a fatal accident and he advised the tree should be felled– he failed to put in a quote.

The Parish Council contacted the tree department at Sefton to ask them to do an assessment and the tree department will programme for this tree to be felled and Formby Parish Council have asked for costing of the metal fence to be temporarily removed if necessary and for the tree stump to be ground out and a new large tree planted in this tree pit.

On a happy note the other 2 old chestnut trees are looking in good shape and the other trees Formby Parish Council planted last year appear to be thriving despite the drought conditions we have had this summer.

Samels Farm has also been placed on the National Register of Historic Places due to the numerous Native American artifacts discovered from several unique cultures - some dating back to 9000 B. C.

The farm has four old-growth chestnut trees, which are rare in Northern Michigan due to the chestnut blight, and are used to harvest chestnuts and create unique chestnut wood gifts that are used to fund the Heritage Society's preservation efforts.

Child picking leaves of a chestnut tree in a park to float in the pond.

This beautiful old 17th century limestone farmhouse and attached outbuildings make for a pretty view along the main street of Hognaston village, in the Derbyshire Dales. The good-sized Sweet Chestnut tree in the moss-covered gravelled garden in front of the structure gives shelter from the elements and quite a few nuts in autumn, I would wager. The type of scene that makes you glad to be in the dales.
