A rambling vineyard enveloped by a hazy sky. Wander through the grapes as they soak up the sun, producing the best vintage of pixel wine on the grid.

Taken at ~The Vineyard at Checkmate~, Checkmate (232, 38, 39)
Taken in the Coronation Gardens this morning. These giant sandstone and stone chess pieces have been there for over 25 years, and they've never been vandalised. That's quite amazing in this day and age.
they thought we were leaving for good.... but we came back that day and they were so happy, as was i.
oh how i miss staring into their big brown eyes wondering what they were really thinking.

It was my sister's idea that I get a photo of this. I personally love this photo because this chess set reminds me of the one in Harry Potter.
Whoever sees no other aim in the game than that of giving checkmate to one's opponent will never become a good Chess player. --- Max Euwe
Strobists: 1 Vivitar 285hv camera right in a shoot through umbrella, 1 Vivitar 285HV camera left bounced off the ceiling. Triggered by Calumet litelinks. I moved some furniture around and got inspired to do this shot.

Back at the Novotel you can see the results of the drought - no water for lawns, no volleyball and no chess players. Just too hot. Interestingly today I hear 1,000,000 square kilometers of the State of Queensland is under floodwaters. Hope some of it flows our way. Oz is a big place. Barossa Valley, South Australia.
I'm actually not sure if this is checkmate or not. But I figure if an opponent is reaching across to touch one of your pieces (and your king especially), it can't be good.

On full moon nights (i.e. 14th day of the lunar month), the older portions of Hoi An are closed to motorised traffic and this was one of the many timeless scenes we witnessed.
My Soom Ai/Yrie hybrid Ayato meets a giant chess-set. Fitting because his style-theme is black-and-white.
Take a seat, tune out the buzz of the city for a nice game of chess in Bryant Park, in midtown Manhattan. For a small fee ($3 for a half hour), the New York Chess & Backgammon Club rents chess, checkers, backgammon and Scrabble boards. Alongside the manicured lawns of the public library, office workers face off while their colleagues hover over the tables munching sandwiches. These two found a quiet spot. And... there's an empty table! Chess anyone?

Stanko playing and winning at Washington Square. Truth be said, the game took 25 minutes, so the challenger turned off the clock, since both he and Stanko kept elaborating on the moves while Stanko's time was running out. Second, the finale came after a while of both me and Stanko's opponent prompting Stanko to look for a better move. Third, the guy may not have been playing to his full potential, especially at the beginning. It was still funny to watch his surprise after Stanko's checked his king in the fourth move.
The rise of the machines? Nope, just my old Armatron.
