A home energy checkup is a great way to save money on energy costs while improving the comfort and efficiency of your home. This simple action can help you reduce your energy usage and recommend home improvements and routines that can enhance your home and put money in your pocket.

In this photo set, Peter Waring from Healthier Dwelling did a full home energy assessment, checking our house for leaks. It appears we have a lot leaks, which will require us to seal our home, to reduce our overall energy consumption and carbon emissions. Stay tuned for more developments on this front.

This is just one of the climate actions we are taking this year, to make a green change in our lives: switching to 100% renewable electricity, getting an electric vehicle, biking more often, canceling long flights, converting gas appliances to electric and eating a plant-rich diet.

In just six months, we have reduced our carbon footprint by half, and we hope to reach zero emissions by the end of next year. This is just one of the ways we are trying to help solve the climate crisis. Besides taking action in our own lives, I have also started Green Change, our new climate action network in Marin, to help others go green with us.

Check Up. Our 4 year old's yearly checkup was today, and he was really keyed up over it, knowing he was probably going to get shots. And he did--4 of them, poor little guy. He didn't leave my side or my lap for most of the visit, other than when the doctor actually gave him the once over. After the ordeal was finished, I plied him and his sister with chocolate milk and cookies at the coffee shop, and all appears to be forgiven now.

Before most Goddard spacecraft components are cleared for launch, they go through final checkups in one of many of the center's clean room facilities. The largest, the High Bay Clean Room, can accommodate two space shuttle payloads at one time.

The High Bay Clean Room, often called the world's largest, prevents dirt, dust and other contaminants from damaging spacecraft components, especially sensitive and carefully calibrated instruments. For example, unlike personal digital cameras, a smudge or speck of dust on the lens of a space telescope is extremely difficult -- if not impossible -- to clean, especially once the spacecraft reaches orbit a few hundred miles up.

A robust ventilation system and an entire wall of air filters help protect against these contaminants. The clean room ventilation system circulates almost one million cubic feet of air every minute through 9,000 square feet of HEPA filters located along one wall. The filters are not your typical off-the-shelf HEPA variety from the local home improvement store. These are specially designed to last several decades.

this message was flown through the airwaves by invisible birds

Regular vet bandaged him up while I wait to get him into the orthopedic vets for consult.

Checkup was ok. Only 63#. Waiting on blood work (checking for heartworms) and fecal results just in case, since they didn't have any of that at the shelter. Got his rabies shot and some nsaids for his arthritis and swollen paw.

Lymph node on the left side, the bandaged paw, slightly swollen, vet suspects because of the injury. She was aghast at the state of his pad. Vet, "I don't know how this thing will ever heal!" ... Which was my worry too, and was hoping the vet would have an idea! Hopefully the ortho will be more helpful.

He is still not responding to his name (Lorenzo, supposedly his name for his entire life. I've tried Zo, Lo, Ren, Enzo, Loren... No response. We also tried Roscoe, Buddy, Yo, Dog... For such a smart dog, this name thing is weird) or and other names we've tried on him. He is listening to me and learning some commands just from repetition (sit, come here, leave it, down, NO!!!!). We need to take him to real obedience class but with the injury... It's all a crazy schedule right now (needs to be healed before class).

He and Boris are fine until Zo really wants to play wrestle and Boris does not. Boris gets pissed and communicates that to Zo... Zo ignores Boris. Then we intervene. I think it's going to be a more involved training than letting them work it out. Sometimes Zo just nuzzles napping Boris while walking by. Other times he grabs a leg to play and Boris gets so mad. Old dog, young dog. Aiiii.

Chester... Is curious but avoiding him. Chester and I have communicated a new schedule but it's really making me sad right now 'cause I miss my kitty napping with me at night. He's not trusting the crate when Zo is in it. Yet. I think it will work out because Chester is a dog savvy cat but it's going to be slow and really, Zo needs to prove himself where Ches is concerned.

The chickens... I had Zo on the lead after a walk and wanted to let the hens out. So I shortened the lead, had him under close control, and opened the coop door. The hens saw him and RAN BACK INTO THE COOP. They never did that with Ginger. :) she was trusted.

Of course Zo was like ready to eat all the chickens so it was probably smart of them. They even have a special alert noise for his presence. Chicken communications is a lot more complicated than they get credit for.

He is a very good dog but kind of wreaking havoc on our life right now.

We're crate training him and it's going better than I expected so far. Not seamless but I don't worry he'll hurt himself if I crate him and leave for a few hours. In a week hopefully that will be true for a night or workday (after sufficient exercise and a Kong and maybe a midday dog walk).
