I went to the lake across the road from my sister-in-law's house to take some photos of the ducks and geese yesterday morning. There weren't too many of them around, but there were other things that caught my eye, so it was still a worthwhile trip. Most of the trees around here whose leaves are starting to change color are starting with just a few leaves here and there. I was surprised at how many have already turned red on this one. Unfortunately, the photo doesn't do it justice.

I'm waaay behind with commenting. I'll try to make it around to as many 'streams as possible today and this weekend.

The modern city of Alba Iulia is located near the site of the important Dacian political, economic and social center of Apulon, which was mentioned by the ancient Greek geographer Ptolemy. After Dacia became a province of the Roman Empire, the capital of Dacia Apulensis was established here, and the city was known as Apulum. Apulum was the largest city in Roman Dacia and was the seat of the XIII Gemina Legion. Apulum is the largest castrum located in Romania, occupying 37.5 hectares (93 acres) (750 x 500 m2). The early Slavic name of the settlement was Bălgrad (meaning "white castle" or "white town"). The "white city" name was Latinized into Alba Julia. Between 1541 - 1690 it was the capital of the Eastern Hungarian Kingdom and the Principality of Transylvania. Alba Iulia is historically important for Hungarians, Romanians and Transylvanian Saxons. The change of guard, troops from the city's Austrian Empire's infantry, cavalry and artillery divisions in their traditional military costumes, happens every day at 12 pm. It takes place nearby the 3rd and 4th Citadel Gates, two of the largest and most imposing of the citadel's seven gates and is attended by a large crowd.
All the elements came together for this photo. But even now in mid-April the landscape is changing almost before my eyes. The green peach fuzz evident on the background tree represents the first signs of budding and leafing. I'm thrilled by the rebirth of vegetation after the long darkness of winter. However I'm always torn as the starkness of bare tree limbs gradually fades away. I love spring and summer and warmth and light. But I also love the atmosphere created by the bleakness of fall and winter. It's really the cornerstone of my photographic passion.
always looking for something a little different to what I normally post so a different pose makes a change all be it only a slight change.
I had a lovely night out wearing this dress once again, Its such a fab frock to dance around in. The new hair needs to settle in a bit give a few weeks of abuse and it will look as natural as can be.
Today a small blanket called the Change of seasons as a sign of support on your journey to create new habits for our new reality, so that you will experience the sun in your face and the wind in your back again.
Wow. It's been quite a while since I've done a selfie just for shits and giggles. Not sure what brought on the urge today, but maybe I'm subconsciously trying to grab onto something familiar at the moment.
There has been a lot going on in my world over the past few months, not the least of which being the tragic and gut-wrenching loss of my sweet kitty, Samson. He was my baby for ten and a half years. At the end of February, he was diagnosed with cancer. He underwent surgery to remove a tumor, and went through one round of chemotherapy, with the hopes of giving him a shot at good quality of life for possibly up to another year. But in the end, the cancer was just too aggressive. I was forced to say goodbye to my baby one month after the diagnosis. I'm still coming to grips with the loss. Whoever described grief as being like the ocean and going from calm one moment to suddenly stormy and overwhelmingly thrashing with waves - spot on. I think about him every day and still constantly feel the gaping hole where he's supposed to be.
I guess that loss may have primed me a bit for our next bit of change. We're in the process of moving to Des Moines, Iowa. I'm looking forward to the new adventure, but I'm understandably anxious about moving to a city I've never set foot in before. But because of everything that's happened here in the last year, I feel ready for a fresh start. I think I just need to go somewhere without so many memories and build some new happiness, you know?
Anyway, hi there. Not sure I'm a fan of the new flickr. Not wholly opposed - still trying to adjust. I kind of like some of the new features, but overall, the homepage just kind of feels like flickr is screaming at me every time I log on. Turn off your caps lock, flickr. We're not all part of the ADHD generation. Sometimes simpler is better.
So yeah. There's a whole lot more fairly heavy crap that I've been dealing with as well, but while I sometimes miss the daily outlet here, I'm also pretty comfortable with keeping some of my world limited to existing...well, in the real world. Offline. That doesn't mean I don't miss a whole hell of a lot of you guys. Hope everybody is hanging in there and doing amazing things.
Another poster supporting action on Climate Change. It is amazing how our government leaders seem to live in a bubble of denial.

The Main Terrace at Mammoth Hot Springs provides an ideal representation of the Earth’s powerful forces at work. The landscape surrounding the Main Terrace is in a constant state of change as new springs boil to the surface and older ones become inactive. We have visited this very spot at least three different times, and it has never looked the same.
Have a great Tuesday....and as always, thanks for stopping by to visit :-)
And live my life ,

"Even if something is left undone, everyone must take time to sit still and watch the leaves turn." -- Elizabeth Lawrence
It was a hard day today; a kind of double whammy for me. It was both the first anniversary of Squeegee's passing, and the day I had to pick Barrymore's remains up from the vet. It hit me hard, and I took a drive up to where my mother's ashes were scattered to spend time near her, too. I found the park in a shambles- messed up terribly by Hurricane Matthew. It seems that storm is never going to be done harming my family in some way. Last week, Barrymore died because of the stress of evacuating before it hit, and this week, the beautiful, pristine place I chose for my mother to rest was devastated by it. Beautiful trees were down, flower beds had no sign of flowers, and even the bamboo was strewn around. Great, heaping piles of debris were waiting for pick up. Everything seemed changed. I sat down on a bench, sadly contemplating the day, and missing my mom, wishing I had kept her ashes with me instead of in a place that didn't stay as beautiful as I'd thought it always would.
I have lost three cats and my mother in the last 8 years. That's too much loss for me. Perhaps now, there won't be any more loss for a while.
The cremation company did a beautiful job of honoring my last two kitties. The box I chose for Barrymore was so large that I could actually place all of them in it. More-More's paw print is on it under glass, and there is a little frame for a photo. I want to try to choose one that has all three of them in it. I still love them all and will always miss them, just like family.
This was Squeegee about 2 1/2 years before he died. When I look in those eyes now, it's like he's still here. How I wish he was. How I wish they ALL were. Some things never change. Love is one of them.
A trip down to Manningtree today to pick up the wife and work on the new lifts is going ahead and should be finished in July. The class 37 was returning Light from Wolverton to Norwich Crown Point after a stock move this morning and I was lucky enough to catch it!

unfortunately there isn't not too much time for flickr at the moment - i hope that will change soon.
If you have the time, worth a look!
Another shot from my home away from home...NY Botanical Gardens. I never get enough of their Water Lily and Lotus Pond, no matter what time of year it is! I really do enjoy my time here! There is such a big difference between the NY and Brooklyn Gardens, Brooklyn, besides being small is more peaceful I think. But I love them both!
The beautiful changes in life are constant in the gardens, but none so noticeable as in the ponds.
I want to truly thank you my friends, for all your visits and comments. Much appreciated!
Be well all.....

When I used to frequent Tonbridge West Yard in the 1980s, taking the long way round from school to the station, there were usually a few 73s on show - albeit not the re-engined variety. GBRf's 73963 waits for its next task as 73141 shunts RHTT wagons in the background.
Locomotives: GB Railfreight Class 73/9 73963 "Janice" and Class 73/1 73141 "Charlotte".
