This is a picture of a statue of Cesar Chaves, a famous hispanic leader, outside of Battle Hall. This statue shows how UT values LatinX history by putting a monument to a historically important person of this decent in such a place of prominence on the campus.
César Chávez Park is a 90 acre park on San Francisco Bay which is the site of the former City of Berkeley landfill. It had spectacular views of San Francisco and the Golden Gate Bridge, lots of wildlife (including burrowing owls, barn owls, and occasional seals), and is the site of the annual Berkeley Kite Festival.
The park has a wonderful 1.25 mile perimeter trail, and this is the place I come most often for a walk or bike ride.
The engineering required to turn an old landfill into a park is staggering. Here's an amazing description of the system built to control the methane gas generated by the decomposing refuse: wasteage.com/mag/waste_miles_pipe_underground/

There were 4 light setups: One Split light, Two Loop lights, and One Aerial light. But not all of them were triggered at the same time in each shoot. I turned off and turned on depending what I wanted.
The equipment used was: Two Elinchrom D-Lite, and Two Bowens Gemini. All of them without modifiers.

While shooting in Detroit last month I ran into Cesar while down shooting at night in Greektown. Cesar asked me for money and I told him about my $2 portrait project and he agreed to pose.
Cesar was born and raised in Detroit and has one child still there. Cesar told me to pardon the fact that he had his beard going on. He told me that he'd just gotten back from several days of fishing out at the lake over the long weekend.
Cesar wanted to tell me all about Detroit. He showed me a plaque on the wall of the 2nd Baptist Church showing that it had once served as a station in the underground railroad telling me that they used to hide slaves there before they made their way across the river to Canada. He was full of information about Detroit and seemed to like the city a lot. He took me on about a 2 block tour of Greektown and had something to say the entire way.
After I paid Cesar he told me that he had to give me a hug. Don't worry, Cesar said, the hugs are free. With that he gave me a hug and we both went our way.
