A certain symmetry - a courting couple out on the local park lake in the Spring sunshine (Nottingham, UK) (4146)
Sometimes looking at certain images it seems that the water moves, although the photograph does not do those things, in me it produces those sensations. Greetings and good weekend to all who visit my gallery.
Vespers, evening prayer of thanksgiving and praise in Roman Catholic and certain other Christian liturgies. Vespers and lauds (morning prayer) are the oldest and most important of the traditional liturgy of the hours. Many scholars believe vespers is based on Judaic forms of prayer and point to a daily evening celebration observed among Jews in the 1st century BCE.By the 3rd century CE the writings of Tertullian show clear evidence of an evening prayer. During the 4th, 5th, and 6th centuries, cathedral choirs and monastic orders developed the vespers service, as it was known for centuries thereafter. Following the Second Vatican Council (1962–65), the Roman Catholic service was translated into the vernacular and simplified, but it continues to revolve around the Magnificat canticle, various psalms and antiphons, and readings that vary according to liturgical season.
The Lutheran and Anglican churches both include an evening prayer service in their liturgies. In the Anglican church, evening prayer traditionally is called evensong and can be found in the 1549 Book of Common Prayer. Both Protestant churches revised their rite for evening prayer during the 1970s, and both rites are patterned closely after the traditional Roman Catholic evening prayer. In the Anglican church the revised prayers offer alternative choices for greater individual choice among congregations.
el versicle inicial Deus in adjutorium meum intende, i l'himne.
Trees in winter
With the arrival of winter, and often at the end of autumn, a new problem arises with trees. This specific "winter" problem is associated with the accumulation of wet snow and the formation of frost on the branches and trunks of trees. "Freezing rains" - phenomena occur under certain combinations of weather conditions: sleet, wind, fog, sudden changes in temperature with a "transition through 0 degrees". Such a significant load on the branches and trunks of trees can lead to emergency situations:
1. Breaking off and collapse of large branches. Typical for poplar, aspen, willow, linden, oak. To a lesser extent for pines and elms.
2. Breaking the forks of co-dominant trunks. Most often found in the above tree species with V-shaped forks. Less typical for U-shaped forks of birch and spruce.
3. Bending under the weight of snow and ice, with possible breaking of the trunks of inclined trees.
I found the trees without obvious problems :)
These are not the most liked birds in the world but they do have an amazing amount of colour in them in a certain light.

My music inspiration "Certain things" by James Arthur
(Thank you sissy for sharing it with me tonight ♥)
I’m certain most of you landscape guys out there will recognize this popular scene as Kanarra Falls. This place is heavily photographed for a good reason, it is absolutely stunning and I couldn’t wait to point my camera at it, even though many others have done the same and better.
I’m ashamed to admit that I have never spent any time exploring Southern Utah. It seems that every time an eight hour drive for vacation comes up, I have always decided to visit the coast.
Last weekend, three of us, myself, my cousin and my brother-in-law decided to rectify that situation. We made a speed run down to visit Zion NP, Bryce NP and points between. I took it all in.. slickrock, cactus, bristlecone and orange sun on red earth. I can’t wait to go back!
*******************************************************************
The livery of the swallowtail is distinguished by its intense yellow background stained and veined black. The forewings carry a broad black border with a row of yellow spots and a large dark mirror powdered with yellow at the corner of the "shoulders"; the underside remains dominated by yellow with veins and black spots. The hindwings are much more yellow above with a crenate border, a chain of yellow cells surmounted by a row of dark blue spots and a red ocellus, circled with black and blue; below, the yellow dominates even more with a fine network of black veins, the blue spots doubled with an orange-red spot for some of them. Remains perhaps the most distinctive sign: an extension, a "tail" that fits into the crenellated edge pattern, which earned him the English name swallowtail (swallow's tail).

We Are the World
There comes a time
When we heed a certain call
When the world must come together as one
There are people dying
Oh, and it's time to lend a hand to life
The greatest gift of all
We can't go on
Pretending day-by-day
That someone, somewhere soon make a change
We're all a part of God's great big family
And the truth, you know, love is all we need
We are the world
We are the children
We are the ones who make a brighter day, so let's start giving
There's a choice we're making
We're saving our own lives
It's true we'll make a better day, just you and me
Oh, send them your heart
So they know that someone cares
And their lives will be stronger and free
As God has shown us by turning stones to bread
And so we all must lend a helping hand
We are the world
We are the children
We are the ones who make a brighter day, so let's start giving
Oh, there's a choice we're making
We're saving our own lives
It's true we'll make a better day, just you and me
When you're down and out, there seems no hope at all
But if you just believe there's no way we can fall
Well, well, well, well let us realize
Oh, that a change can only come
When we stand together as one, yeah..
We are the world
We are the children
We are the ones who make a brighter day, so let's start giving
There's a choice we're making
We're saving our own lives
It's true we'll make a better day, just you and me.

So much is certain:
It is the Sun's Final Curtain
But the Blanket of Darkness
Cannot really harm us
The Awakening of a new Day
Will bring us the first Sun Ray
There'll always be a new Light
That will shine ever so bright

Like North Falls further upstream, Middle North Falls has certain characteristics which one could argue give it an edge when comparing it to the park's main attraction, South Falls. Despite being considerably shorter, Middle North Falls is a markedly amorphous waterfall which changes physical shape in a very dramatic way as the volume of water in North Silver Creek changes. The 106 foot tall falls take the form of a narrow column of water during the summer months, funneled to perhaps 5 feet wide at most by a narrow runnel in the bedrock. With greater stream flow in the winter and spring months however, North Silver Creek sheets out across the 60-foot wide creek bed and turns the falls into a broad curtain of water, with part of the falls impacting on a twisting chute of basalt which then slides to join the more volumnous half of the creek in the plunge pool.
Middle North Falls is one of four waterfalls in Silver Falls State Park which features a trail which traverses behind the falling water. Unlike the other three, the trail leading behind Middle North Falls is a dead-end, constructed purely to allow access to additional views of the falls.

Elephant seals: They're huge, loud and so ugly, they're cute. And each year, they gather on California's Central Coast for mating, birthing and molting seasons. Visitors to San Simeon can catch elephant seals there year-round, but the population grows at certain times of the year as the seals go through different phases in their life cycle. The peak months for viewing elephant seals are from October through March, when their population on San Simeon's shores can reach 17,000. So if you've planned a trip to Hearst Castle or San Luis Obispo in the fall, winter or early spring, consider dropping by San Simeon to watch the elephant seals in action.
From this point up & down 3 miles, the elephant seals estimated of 25,000 there.
So amazing to witness this, they do smell tho when you get near.

On our way through the woodlands before Sugar Loaf Hill, we found a great many sessile oaks with immense levels of character.
I enjoy trying to find balance within the frame, especially when the subject is not perfectly symmetrical. I probably took the shot a dozen times, trying to move the sun around the branches as it set behind the slope beyond. I used f11 on the XF 16 1.4 as it was the best compromise for front to back sharpness, and the resulting sunstar. Certain media has had an influence on both the composition and the colouring of this shot. I softened the highlights, introduced a golden tint to both shadows and highlights, and raised the blacks to soften the contrast a little. Using a gradient I decided to really push the exposure in the upper half of the image to maximise the fantasy inspiration (Elden Ring).

St Athernase Church is a Romanesque church located in Leuchars, Fife, Scotland. It is a Category A listed building and remains in use as a Church of Scotland parish church.
The chancel and half-round apse date from the 12th century with the exterior featuring blind arcades with typical Norman arches. The church was granted by Ness son of William, Lord of Leuchars, to the canons of St Andrews in 1185. Around 1700 a belfry was added, and in 1858 restoration was carried out to the nave.
The church is open to the public in summer, at other times by arrangement. Relics preserved inside include part of a 9th-century cross-slab found near the village (closely comparable to the large collection at St Andrews Cathedral), and three elaborate 16th century memorial stones of the Bruce's of Earlshall, the local lairds. One of the latter shows a full length figure of a woman, naïve in execution, but valuable in documenting contemporary dress.
The oft-mentioned dedication of the medieval church of Leuchars to St Athernase is actually an error. It arises from a nineteenth-century misreading of a list of church dedications in the Register of St Andrews Priory, a medieval manuscript now in the National Archives of Scotland. Folio 155v. has a list of churches dedicated, or re-dedicated, by bishop David de Bernham of St Andrews in the 1240s. The eighth church in this list is 'ecclesia sancti Johannis euangeliste et sancti Athernisci confessoris de Losceresch (the church of St John the evangelist and St Athernase the confessor). However the church of Losceresch is not the church of Leuchars, which in medieval sources is spelt Lochris, Locres etc., but the parish church of Lathrisk (now Kettle parish in Fife), whose early spellings are Losresc (1170s), Loseresch, Losseresc (1227) and such like. Athernase is the patron saint not of Leuchars but of Lathrisk.
The patron of Leuchars is not known for certain, but some medieval sources indicate a local cult of St Bonoc, a name unknown outside the parish of Leuchars, and a chapel of St Bonoc, complete with chaplain, is known to have existed.
"Athernase" may be an anglicised form of the name Itharnán, found also in Fife at Kilrenny, and on the Isle of May, an Irish missionary who "died among the Picts" in 669 according to the Annals of Ulster.

“In a certain sense the past is far more real, or at any rate more stable, more resilient than the present. The present slips and vanishes like sand between the fingers, acquiring material weight, only in its recollection.”

The ancient Agora of Athens is the best-known example of an ancient Greek agora, located to the northwest of the Acropolis and bounded on the south by the hill of the Areopagus and on the west by the hill known as the Agoraios Kolonos, also called Market Hill.

The young one was most attentive, watching carefully for quite a while. Then it finally cottoned on and started copying its mentor.
