If I were to have a "ghetto dev" Celeron 433 in my closet as a file/CD/DVD burning/storage system, it might look something like this. And run Windows XP, using 64 MB of RAM after logging in. (I don't know how I got there either.)

Intel Pentium II'den sonra Celeron'dan bir kare koymazsak olmaz. Nerden elime geçtiğini hatırlamadığım Celeron oldukça sağlıklı görünüyor. İsteyen olursa satabilirim :P
Various pics of my Oscilloscope computer case.
Started lfe as a 1960's vintage Bell and Howell Schools oscilloscope. Gutted it, added a $10 "plasma disk" in place of the old CRT tube display, did some Dremel'ing, sanding, hacksawing and drilling...and now it's a computer case.
The 'scope itself was about $10 on eBay, the motherboard/CPU is nothing special, a Celeron D 315 2.13ghz and all the other parts are spares, extras, and scavenged stuff from my scrap pile.
The front panel buttons and knobs operate the DVD-RW drive open/close, turning the display on/off, and the reset and power switches.

Since I'm too cheap to buy a new laptop, I was never planning on owning one. Now, through my uncle, I have one. It was his older one, now it's mine.
It's nothing to brag about.
1.06 GHZ Intel Celeron processor, 320 MB of RAM, and 20 GB hard drive, but, it works (albeit slowly) and, it's free. So, I can't complain. It looks new, as far as being clean goes, so, I'm grateful for that. Even came with power cords, carrying case, and all that good stuff. :)
( p.s., TIm, I hope you don't mind I'm using the photo you edited for me as a BG, if it's a problem, I can remove it)

One of the fun part of my jobs at work is to upgrade computer systems. I was asked to see what I could do for a Windows Media Center Edition 2005 box that I built a almost 3 years ago. It had a 60GB hard drive, 512MB of memory and a Celeron D 2.0GHz processor. Well, it seems I had this strange processor lying around. It's a Prescott processor running on a 533MHz bus. It was one of those unannounced, unassuming processors coming between the Northwood 400MHz FSB processors and the actual 800MHz FSB Prescotts. It's missing the HyperThreading circuitry but does have 1MB of L2 cache. The new MCE box is very silky smooth with 2GB of memory and a 500GB hard drive. :)

I went to PC Fair today and guess who I met there?
It was my GilaChess Patzer team mate Balendran. As some of you know, Balendran is an experienced local chess coach. Anyway it turns out that we were there for the same reason - to look at notebooks.
Only difference is that Balendran can actually afford one and I can't. So sad :(
Anyway prices of budget notebooks have definitely fallen. Many branded Celeron M notebooks can be bought for RM2000. What cought my eye was the higher end Dell notebook with Core Duo processor selling for only RM 2899. Mouth watering!!
We also viewed some MacBooks which were georgous but cost RM 5200.Not only do they look cool, these notebook can run both Windows and Mac software. But for chess players like us, there really isn't any good chess programs.

microATX motherboard w/ Celeron 533Mhz CPU and 64MB SDRAM.
10GB hard drive.
nVidia TNT2 (32MB) video card.
microATX power supply.
For testing only I have a standard keyboard/mouse, 50X CD-ROM and 17" LCD monitor.
*Update* I have added a 56K modem/sound card combo.
*Update 2* One of my friends donated an old, but very very nice computer to the project. New specs include:
Asus motherboard with onboard audio, 512MB of DDR-RAM, 1.2 Ghz Celeron processor, 40GB hard drive, and a GeForceFX 5200 video card. It's kinda hard to play Goldeneye from the N64 with arcade controls, but it's nice to know it's possible. Before moving the arcade to my dorm I added an old Logitech wireless keyboard/mouse. That way I can pull the keyboard or mouse out of my closet for adding ROMs or whatever.
*Update 3* The computer now runs Windows XP and has plenty of games.
My hard drive crashed. I have a huge amount of data that was not backed up. So go burn cd-s or dvd-s of your image files. Do it today.
I'll be exploring the world of data recovery.
My next plan is to have 2 hard drives and to write all the raw image data to both. When I have enough data, I'll burn a dvd. That will leave me with the data in 3 places.
Sigh
OH, and this pc has a celeron processor (I think). Jeeeeeez. (not the pc that had the hard drive crash, the one I'm trying to use afterwards. Point being, it's terribly frustrating to try to do anything with a pc right now, even surf the web)
Oh - and also, if you are doing a backup project - I don't worry about backing everything up. I just burn a cd or dvd of the digital 'negatives'. Backup whatever it is that comes off of the camera. You can always reprocess the photo. If you do digital art, though, you'd have to backup your final images, too.
