A staircase from the Tokyo National Museum, Japanese Gallery (Honkan). The exhibition was vast and interesting, but the architecture itself was nothing spectacular. However, the western neoclassical styled building has many interesting details, one being this. The black-and-white approach here is especially funky as the sides of staircase turn into light itself.
Parroquia de Alcoy | Santa Maria | Church interior | The Parish Church of Santa María de Alcoy is situated in the historic centre of Alcoy, in the Plaza de España. Neoclassical in style and built in the 18th century, its origins date back to the 13th century. The main façade is imposing and stands out for its neoclassical style with columns and pilasters, with two symmetrical bell towers flanking the façade. A large central rose window allows natural light to enter. There is a central dome over the transept, as well as side chapels between the buttresses. Its sober decoration is typical neoclassical, while its high altarpiece is dedicated to the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The church suffered major damage during the Spanish Civil War and had to be partially rebuilt. It is one of the most significant religious buildings in Alcoy and is still the centre of many religious and cultural celebrations in the city, including the famous Moors and Christians festivities.
This is a photo of one of the ceilings in the Borghese Gallery in Rome. I have not been able to find out anything about it.

This small room takes its name from the fresco in the centre of the ceiling, which depicts three women dancing within frames of ivy decorated all around by floral motifs, garlands, festoons, and musical instruments that recall the grotesques and stuccos of ancient Roman villas. Lobby of the Royal York Hotel (Fairmount)
The Fairmont Royal York, formerly and commonly known as the Royal York, is a large historic luxury hotel on 100 Front Street West. The hotel is situated within Downtown Toronto, at the southern end of the Financial District. The Royal York was designed by Ross and Macdonald, in association with Sproatt and Rolph, and built by the Canadian Pacific Railway. The hotel is presently managed by Fairmont Hotels and Resorts.
Opened on 11 June 1929, the Châteauesque-styled building is 124-metre-tall (407 ft), and contains 28 floors. After its completion, the building was briefly the tallest building in Toronto, as well as the tallest building in the country, and the British Empire, until the nearby Commerce Court tower was built the following year. The building has undergone several extensive renovations since it first opened, with its first major renovation in 1972. An underground walkway linking the hotel with the Royal Bank Plaza and Union Station form part of the Toronto's PATH underground city system.

This is the ceiling of the Great Hall in the Library of Congress Thomas Jefferson Building. I can't get enough of The Library of Congress. My love for this incredible building in DC is immense. I think it is perhaps more interesting than most of the nearby Smithsonian Museums, thanks to the incredible architecture, artwork, and many exhibits.
Though the Library was founded 1800, the Thomas Jefferson Building was opened in 1897 after a significant period of expansion following the Civil War.

Chinese Cultural Centre
The Calgary Chinese Cultural Centre is a special community centre for the Community of Chinatown, the Chinese community and the citizens of Calgary. Its objectives are to serve as a community centre and hub for Calgarians to meet and socialize.
The centre piece of the complex is the Dr. Henry Fok Cultural Hall, a building modeled after the Hall of Prayers of the Temple of Heaven in Beijing. The 21 m high ceiling is decorated with 561 dragons and 40 phoenixes. It is supported by 4 columns with gold ornamentation representing each season. The outer surface of the dome is covered in blue tiles imported from China and crafted by the same company that endowed the Temple of Heaven during the Ming Dynasty 600 years ago.

The Basilica of Santa María del Mar stars in Ildefonso Falcones' novel, The Cathedral of the Sea, which has sold more than six million copies and has been translated into numerous languages. Likewise, in the second part of the novel, The Heirs of the Earth. Reference is also made to it in the work of Carlos Ruiz Zafón, the novel The Angel's Game, and in the youth novel Thesaurus, Ombres a Barcelona by Àfrica Ragel.

Evangelical Church (in need of repair), Bistrita, Romania
Located in Bistriţa's Main Square, the Evangelical Church was built by Transylvanian Saxons centuries ago. Construction of the Gothic church with Renaissance elements (i.e. the pews) began in 1470 and was completed almost 100 years later by Petrus Italus de Lugano, who added renaissance elements to the structure. A 76.5 m high steeple (Saxons' Tower) overlooking the city was added later, making it the highest stone church tower in Romania. (surprising-romania.blogspot.com/2010/01/evangelical-churc...)
The modern ceiling in the otherwise old building of the Grand Hotel Amrâth Kurhaus in The Hague adds a cheerful note to the entrance hall.
Here the arrangement of earth tone colored tesserae appear in an ornate American Indian design.

The ceiling frescoes of St. Katharina in Garching. The oldest parts of the church date to the 13th century, but most of the current structure was built in the 15th century. In the 18th century the interior was converted to the current Baroque style.

St Pancras Renaissance Hotel is George Gilbert Scott's Gothic Revival ‘magnus opus’, with its Hogwarts-style steeples and gargoyles.
The grandeur of the Grand Staircase is like walking into a scene from Harry Potter. The vaulted ceiling with a painted celestial scene reminds you of Firenze’s Divination classes.
In 1875 The Builder commented that “Railway termini and hotels are to the 19th century what monasteries and cathedrals were to the 13th century; they are the only truly representative buildings we possess”. These were astute words indeed as the combination of St Pancras station and the hotel are surely our nation’s strongest symbols of Victorian pride, true proclamations of the power of our steam age. The public mirrored this sentiment, exclaiming: “St George for England and St Pancras for Scotland” when the full majesty of the building was revealed (access to Scotland from the station had recently been secured).
