CANCUN, MEXICO - MARCH 29: Dozens of actors and volunteers are seen on Friday, March 29, 2024, while participating in the 13th edition of the 'Passion of Christ' performance that marks the Good Friday festivities, in the Delfines beach, in Cancun, Quintana Roo (Mexico). One of the most special days of the Catholic calendar during Holy Week is Good Friday, on which it is believed that Christ was crucified. Different representations of this act are held around the world, but none like the one represented in Cancun in which the Way of the Cross takes place on the shore of the Caribbean sea. In Mexico, the most popular is Iztapalapa, which was held for the first time in 1843. According to official figures, almost five thousand people, mainly from Cancun, as well as national and foreign tourists, gathered at the popular Delfines beach to participate in he representation. Last year, after having resumed the performance after a three-year hiatus due to the pandemic caused by COVID-19, the people of Cancun were invited to join the cast, which had an effect, since on this occasion the performance was resumed complete, reaching a duration of just over an hour. CANCÚN, MÉXICO - MARZO 29: Decenas de actores y voluntarios son vistos, hoy, viernes 29 de marzo de 2024, mientras participan en la XIII edición de la representación de la 'Pasión de Cristo' que marca las festividades del Viernes Santo, en la playa Delfines, en Cancún, en Quintana Roo (México). Uno de los días más especiales del calendario católico durante la Semana Santa, es el Viernes Santo, en el que se cree que Cristo fue crucificado. Aalrededor del mundo se realizan diferentes representaciones de este acto, pero ninguna como la que se escenifica en Cancún, en la que el Viacrucis se lleva a cabo a la orilla del mar Caribe. En México el más popular es el de Iztapalapa que se realizó por primera vez en 1843. De acuerdo con cifras oficiales, casi cinco mil personas, principalmente cancunenses, así como turistas nacionales y extranjeros, se reunieron en la popular playa Delfines para ser partícipes de la representación. El año pasado, luego de haber retomado la representación tras tres años de pausa por la pandemia provocada por la COVID-19, se invitó a los cancunenses a que se sumaran al elenco, lo que surtió efecto, pues en esta ocasión se retomó la representación completa, llegando a una duración de poco más de una hora. Además de esta representación en la playa, en todo Cancún fueron alrededor de 22 congregaciones religiosas más las que tuvieron alguna conmemoración de este tipo por la Semana Santa. To cause this level of stress to someone with Mojgan's history is uncalled for. The Australian Immigration system is very old school, extremely slow and outdated, and urgently needs updating to bring it up to 2017 standards. I say this having gone through the excruciating process of obtaining a partner visa myself. The things you are asked to provide show a very old way of thinking, and do not fit the modern day society that we live in. To even remotely consider penalising this poor girl, or cause her the stress of worrying about deportation and indefinite detention due to a bridging visa expiring - when she comes from such a background - and is a long standing member of the Australian society, as well as married to an Australian, is simply not OK. I can only imagine the fear and painful memories this must awaken in her. Please urgently respond and do the right thing Australia.
