I eat lots of apples picked fresh from a tall tree. Each morning Simon jumps up to pick one, The Mother Kitty is disappointed that he comes back down to deliver it.
This week, The Kitties headed to The Gulf of Mexico to help with the oil spill cleanup effort. Here, Gordon makes a new friend.
Illustration Friday's topic, "Ripple," is corresponding with The Ripple Blog, which benefits charities fighting to save the animals affected by the Deepwater Horizon Catastrophe. Conceived by Kelly LIght, The Ripple Blog began on the spill's 45th day. All artwork on The Ripple Blog are done on 2.5" x 3.5" sketchcards. Each one is sold for a $10 donation to either The Institute for Marine Mammal Studies (http://www.imms.org/) or The International Bird Rescue Research Center (http://www.ibrrc.org/).
Check out Kelly's blog for more details here, ripplesketches.blogspot.com/. We can all do our part: Contribute your own art for the blog or make a donation today! Thanks, Kelly, for this wonderful idea!
This one took me a while, mainly because it took The Kitties so long to get to their respective planets. They're on they're way home now.
When we first met The Mother Kitty, she was going by the name of Ghost. We figured why but offered a different name immediately because she's not that scary.... (But if you tell her that, she will deny it.)
Gordon was immediately inspired by this week's drawing topic. While I can't blame him--since I have been just as delirious over Johnny's fantastic new movie and his well-deserved Golden-Globe-winning performance (It's about time!)--I told him it would be too gruesome and un-kittylike. But he's proven me wrong again. I don't know where he got the outfit, but he's put the rest of The Kitties in stitches!

You could say that we have collected a group of forgotten kitties. Aside from Gordon, who was born into privilege, The Kitties were on their own when they made their way into our lives. After some networking, The Kitty prompted some University of Akron students to find her a better home. She was agreeable to making the 30-minute car ride to ours. Meanwhile, during a visit to a Cincinnati veterinarian, Julie was immediately charmed by Comet's unprecedented adorableness. Ashes then subtly convinced her that she was his best companion. (After some initial complaints, this proved true.) B.J. grew tired after his few years on the road and asked Julie if he could move in with her to settle down. Likewise, Norman chased her down a bike trail arguing that she had room for one more. (That is still under debate.) After Gordon left home to conquer the world, Simon showed up at our office with a slight limp. I'm not sure why these kitties were abandoned, but I'm glad they found our homes, and I think they are too.

Of all The Kitties, Mini is the only one capable of revealing Norman's playful side--and getting him some exercise.

After a long string of September visits and visitors, Dad arrived for a relaxing weekend of sunshine, baseball games, and movies.
Whenever Dad visits, Lily is ready for "The Blanket Game." One time, she disappeared under the folds without her tail in view to save her from a good smoosh. Luckily, I saw her slink underneath before Dad, focused on his drink and the TV, sat back down!
I'm considering using this drawing as a warning sign for her. Do you think it'll work?

You can always tell when Lily gets excited. (It doesn't take much.) I'm not sure what caught her eye tonight, but you might want to get out of the way.

In September, I created this drawing as a wedding gift for my friend Ghennet and her husband Hailesh. I was inspired to draw them a tree as they plant their roots and begin this new chapter of their lives together.
Here, B.J. models his latest bathing suit. Comet finds it amusing, since he wouldn't be caught anywhere near a bath. Umbrellas for a light sprinkle are as much as he can handle.

This weekend, I went home to Ohio to celebrated my nephew Liam's 7th birthday. While nearly every gift was somehow related to Star Wars, he had lots of fun outdoors throwing his new gliding planes from one end of the backyard to the other. When no one was looking, Simon decided to test this one out. He approves.

For the last few weeks, my phone has been working only when it feels like it. Maybe the phone repairman will figure it out tomorrow....since the kitties have been unsuccessful so far.

Mom taught The Mother Kitty everything she knows about gardening. The Mother Kitty has since taken some liberties on how she cares for her flowers.

At The Mother Kitty's house, germs are not tolerated. Cleanliness, she says, is key.

Since Mini came to live with my sister Julie, she's been The Queen of the Upstairs. if you go up to see her, she may act timid at first. And, it's true, she hesitates to come down at times. But, she's no chicken.

Today is my parents' 37th anniversary, so The Kitties broke out the balloons. No one seems too worried about where the balloons are headed or how the crazy kitties will get down... (Well, except for Comet, who is commonly worried about most situations).

Lily may be one of the prettiest cats, but she's not the most graceful. For this week, I could have chosen to depict the day she slipped off her cat climber and fell more than 5 feet to the hardwood floor. Or, I could have picked one of the many times she did summersaults and bellyflops in an effort to grab one of her toys. Instead, I selected the time she was so content with her purring and rolling that she forgot the size of the sofa and went just a bit too far. Here, she lands on her feet. The claw marks on my couch lean toward a different story. I won't tell if you won't.
