I removed my cast myself the night of day two. The pain upon waking awaking and throughout the day was intolerable in my ring finger and I could not get a hold of anyone in the office.
So, I took my good (sniffle) jewelry wire cutters and pliers plus my scissors and spent 4 ½ hours removing the two cement like layered castes with cotton and gauze and tape in side and between.
When I opened the cast at the fingers, my ring finger’s blood supply was being cut off by the tight tape put on to buddy it up to the damaged baby finger. Same with my wrist and hand.
That was, albeit messy and painful, the best 4 ½ hours I ever spent. Called and fired MD today.

Until the passing of the Anatomy Act of 1832, the only bodies legally available for dissection in England were those of executed criminals. Casts of flayed cadavers, known as écorchés, were therefore important as models for teaching anatomy both in medical schools and in art academies. Conventional écorchés made for artists consisted of a standing male figure set in a classicising pose and flayed to expose the first layer of muscles. However, in the late eighteenth century, artists and anatomists began to experiment with more elaborate poses and deeper levels of dissection.

The crucifixion was cast from the corpse of James Legg "a murderer taken straight from the gallows to be nailed to a cross and flayed in order to settle an artistic debate. This was done at the request of three Royal Academicians - sculptor Thomas Banks and painters Benjamin West and Richard Cosway - to prove their belief that most depictions of the Crucifixion were anatomically incorrect."

The standing figure came from the corpse of Solomon Porter, a burglar turned murderer, executed 1771.
Smugglerius was the nickname given to the figure under the belief that the executed criminal was a smuggler. The pose is based on the Roman sculpture, the Dying Gaul.

Day 158 of 365 (Year Three)
We've had the past few weeks off from shooting. Instead the cast and crew has been building the sets for the scenes shot on the ship. Today, however, we shot another planet bound scene for Browncoats: Redemption. This time we were at the Java Grande in Ellicott City. The owner was kind enough to allow us the use of half of the cafe to shoot the scenes we needed. As usual, we had to get a group shot after we wrapped.

This is my cast iron pan, Fire Eater (Yes, I name my pots and pans. Don't judge me!). He's a 12 inch piece from Lodge.
I never wash cast iron with soap unless I intend on seasoning it right after, and I rarely cook acidic foods (tomatoes, wine, citrus, etc.) in it because it may damage the seasoning. For more information about cast iron, click here.
