This was taken at "Batu Hitam", a beach at my hometown. "Batu Hitam" means Black Stones, because there is a stretch of black stones at the otherwise white sandy beach.

A crystal clear night after a wild weathered day on 11 Mile Reservoir gave me an opportunity to try my hand at the popular Milky Way Pano, which was the reason we ventured up to this location. After spending the day scoping and shooting sunset which included dinner in Cripple Creek, we spent the night in several different vantages around the lake. This was the last set up of the morning, taken just before the light began to change for sunrise.
Flattened out this way, the shot does not convey the awesome majesty observed that night. This is over 180 degrees side to side and close to 150 degrees vertical as this was shot with my 16mm fisheye in portrait perspective. 6 shot positions were taken and stitched together to create this panorama, with each position consisting of 6 – 20 second shots (at f/2.8 & ISO 6400). The theory of shooting multiple shots at higher ISO is to capture more of the dark scene with reduced noise. In practice it was quite a challenge to merge all this together and ended up stretching over days and was very close to not happening. In the future I’ll try shooting this other ways and experiment with the benefit of the technique I used. One good thing is that this pano can be printed huge and coincidentally I may have it sold this afternoon at 92” x 48”. By far the biggest photo I’ve sold to date and maximizes the wood plaque capabilities. Fingers crossed!

La tour sud est beaucoup plus récente puisqu'elle date du début du XVIe siècle ; la première pierre est posée en 1485, le 10 novembre, par Robert de Croismare, les travaux étant commencés par Guillaume Pontif, maître d’œuvre. En 1496, Guillaume Pontif est remplacé par Jacques le Roux qui achève la tour en 1506. Elle est « couronnée », ce qui est caractéristique du style flamboyant, dite « de beurre », parce qu'elle a été financée avec les indulgences de carême, c'est-à-dire que des fidèles riches s'achetaient le droit de consommer du beurre et autres laitages pendant le carême tout comme à la cathédrale de Bourges où existe également une tour de beurre.
Une autre explication à cette dénomination est que cette tour est d'une teinte plus jaune (calcaire lutétien de Saint-Leu, dont la couleur pourrait faire penser que la tour a été sculptée dans une motte de beurre) que le reste de la maçonnerie en pierre blanche de Caumont et de Vernon. Elle n'est construite qu'à partir de 1485 et le chapitre de la cathédrale connut de houleux débats entre les « anciens » et les « modernes » pour décider qui des partisans d'une flèche ou d'une couronne l'emporterait. Finalement les seconds l'emportèrent. Sa construction qui coûta 24 750 livres tournois était destinée à équilibrer au sud le volume de la tour Saint-Romain. Elle se compose de quatre niveaux qui suivent un plan carré et d'un couronnement octogonal ponctué de pinacles.
L'immense cloche de la tour est fondue en 1501, elle prend le nom de son mécène, Georges d'Amboise.
La tour de Beurre a inspiré la construction d'un célèbre building de Chicago, la Tribune Tower, en 1923-1925.

The south tower is much more recent, dating from the beginning of the 16th century; the first stone was laid in 1485, on November 10, by Robert de Croismare, with work started by Guillaume Pontif, the master builder. In 1496, Guillaume Pontif was replaced by Jacques le Roux, who completed the tower in 1506. The tower's immense bell was cast in 1501, it takes the name of its patron, Georges d'Amboise.
The Butter Tower inspired the construction of a famous Chicago building, the Tribune Tower, in 1923-1925.
The Butter Tower contains 2 of the cathedral's seven bells.

A small cast iron griddle, taken for 117 pictures in 2017, #34 "iron". I decided to try this one is a square format. Dried chiles are typically toasted like this before use, but obviously this one isn't hot, or even near a stove.
I'm starting a figbrawl with EvolvedTurtle! We're making the six main characters of Rise of the Guardians.

Durante siglos el castillo fue utilizado como hospital. Se encuentra en el valle de las Guadalerzas, a 18 kilómetros de la localidad de Los Yébenes
The photograph shows several aspects of the lignite (brown coal) mining landscape around Leipzig, Germany:
The brown coal is exploited in open-cast mines, where the covering sediment is removed using huge stripping shovels / rotary excavators like the abandoned SRs 1000/1547 shown at the left. The SRs 1000 has a mass of 1200 tons and was able to move approx. 3'000 m² of sand per hour. It can now be visited in the Bergbau-Technik-Park museum.
On the right there is the lignite-fired Lippendorf Power Station, which produces electricity and heat from 10 Mio. tons of lignite per year (2'000 MW, see also my photo Cloud Factory).
After exploitation of the coal, huge residual holes remain in the landscape that are filled with ground- and surface water, and are renaturated for recreational use, like the Markkleeberger See in the foreground. In this way, the newly emerging Leipzig Lake District (Leipziger Neuseenland) is formed.
