For his Branding 2 project, Scott Strathern chose to brand the identity of a waterfront boutique hotel on the shores of False Creek in Vancouver. The result is a refreshing take on a modern hotel that meets the needs of his audience — smart, design savvy, cool, and hip people in the know. The brand package consists of competitive analysis, moodboard, environment design, logo design and miscellaneous branded applications.

Roger Dario’s graduate project — “Standard Scientifical Industries” — is silly. With a product line that includes Hitler Assassination Kits, Folding Quarantine Chambers, and Deus Ex Machina in a box, it’s satiric and inspiring. It’s as inventive as it is nostalgic. Part Nickelodeon, part Adbusters, part 1950s propaganda, it’s a shining testament to Roger’s skills and voice as a designer.

For his Branding 2 project, Robert Soo chose to brand the identity of a Vancouver waterfront boutique hotel. Like the land itself, the Loft logo is dynamic and mutable, capable of varying moods. The logo makes use of a variety of backings drawn from landscape paintings in the public domain that capture the majesty of the local environment. These various paintings are unified together by the Loft symbol within them that uses the paintings as a frame. The brand package consists of competitive analysis, moodboards, environment design, logo design and miscellaneous branded applications.

The Eames House, Case Study House #8, was one of 25 homes built as part of The Case Study House Program. Charles and Ray proposed that the home they designed would be for a married couple who were basically apartment dwellers working in design and graphic arts, and who wanted a home that would make no demands for itself, but would, instead serve as a background for as Charles would say, "life in work" with nature as a "shock absorber."

The first plan of their home, known as the Bridge House, was designed by Charles Eames and Eero Saarinen in 1945. Charles and Ray moved into the House on Christmas Eve, 1949, and lived here for the rest of their lives. The interior, its objects and its collections remain very much the way they were in Charles and Ray's lifetimes. The house they created offered them a space where work, play, life, and nature co-existed.

McDonalds recently selected Bouncepads to house their new internet portals in select locations. The playful aesthetic and highly secure nature of the Bouncepad turned out to be the perfect solution for McDonalds' high traffic environments.

Personnel from the Forest Service and partner agencies gathered Aug. 8, 2017 to study and discuss decisions made and consequences of the Mormon Fire of 2016. The gathering was used as a learning opportunity for future fire managers and other personnel involved in making decisions about how to manage wildfires. Various locations were visited to illustrate different decision points during the fire and give participants a better idea of what types of landscape and challenges fire managers might face. “At first, I struggled to settle on a concept that I could believe in," says Roger Dario. "My initial idea was to create something along the lines of a middle school science fair, but that seemed implausible, even by my standards. I then decided to brainstorm with my brother... and after reminiscing about our childhood, he brought up the idea of a mail-order toy catalogue like the ones we’d see at the back of comic books.”

“The National Department of Suspense acts as a government agency – inherently bureaucratic and coldly structured," says Roger. "The T. Stewart Baker Paradox & General Relativity Company is half Nikola Tesla, half Dr. Who. And the Candid Brothers are my idea of Daft Punk – if they were around in the 1950s.”

(c) HelpAge International 2010

Known as the rice bowl of Cambodia for producing multiple annual rice harvests, the majority of residents in Battambang province rely on agriculture for their survival. But the area is plagued by extreme climatic conditions, with heavy flooding and storms. In 2009, Typhoon Ketsana triggered violent storms, causing major damage to infrastructure, housing, and crops.

HelpAge has worked closely with five village-based older people’s associations in Aek Phnum district to establish a climate change adaptation subcommittee to help people develop and implement adaptive strategies. These so-called investment plans were repeatedly presented to the main decision-makers in the villages, such as commune council members and village chiefs, in order to seek funding.

HelpAge trained members of the community to increase their understanding of climate change and encourage them to use more resilient agricultural practices such as the use of flood and drought-resistant rice and vegetable seeds or practising a flood-resistant technique whereby vegetables are grown in lifted pots. This included training on environmental conservation and sustainable agriculture, in conjunction with staff from the Provincial Department of Agriculture.
