A metaphor for 2023 society or Birmingham? Both are broke.

We've been in a deep cold spell here in Fairbanks, first one in 5 years. Temperature bottomed out at -53F, this morning it's warmed up to -37F with the weatherman predicting balmy temperatures of +10F tomorrow. Both me and the birds can hardly wait.

This is a black capped chickadee. They are showing their respect for the temperature by being all puffed out for additional insulation and being tolerant of me taking their photos by the feeder.

Black-capped Chickadee with a tasty snack. This Chickadee landed right above our campsite in Michigan with the insect it had just caught.

Another Red-capped Plover on the sand flats. Amazing tiny little birds that have to put up with the ravages of living, feeding and nesting on the sand flats of the beach.

Scientific name: Charadrius ruficapillus

Fully developed cap over a rising cumulus at sunset. Saturated layer of air has been forced over the cumulus cloud causing adiabatic cooling and condensation. This cap is unusually extensive and larger than the cloud below. It developed over two minutes and was gone two minutes later.

Poecile atricapillus

The Black-capped Chickadee hides seeds and other food items to eat later. Each item is placed in a different spot and the chickadee can remember thousands of hiding places.
