Another one that I spotted from being down for a different capture. From the angle I was walking, this guy was behind the stump. This was a 41 image stack, actually 2 x 20 plus a single test image. I know the stacking sounds weird but I just couldn't tell if that thin back valance (cap edge) was captured clearly so I took more images. The extra one was to prefocus my first stack set.

I have been to the Eureka Dunes many times. I’ve been here during a thunderstorm where lightning struck the dunes less than 1000 feet away from where I was standing. But somehow in my many visits here I had never once considered that the dry lake on the northwest side of these immense dunes ever fills with water. After visiting a recently flooded Badwater, I decided to take the long way out and took the long northerly trek from Ubehebe Crater up and over the Last Chance Range and into Eureka Valley. As I approached, I was floored to find a vast shallow lake reflecting the dunes and fresh snow still capping the Last Chance Range.
