1 of the 5 European Bee-eaters (Merops apiaster) in Finland at the moment. Catch of the day is some wasp or bee 🐝 type of a thingy. Yammie... If you zoom in you may see the stripes. Happy Days.

This is Porfido's Market in downtown Littleton, New Hampshire. The market has been at this location since 1920 and usually is quite busy.

As I get better at editing my photos, I like to go back to some of the older images, that I think I can finally do some justice to and rework them.

Was able to photograph a couple beautiful models at the Neon Museum, downtown Las Vegas, Nevada.

A Eurasian Pygmy Owl (Glaucidium passerinum) giving me the eye... Happy Days.

Overlooking Jackson Lake from the Signal Mountain Area / Grand Teton National Park.

We were driving home from birding at the Ramona Grasslands, and this full moon was too much to resist. I had to use a memory foam cushion from the car to stabilize the big lens. The jet was an added and unexpected bonus.

Dec. 26, 2023.

East of Ramona, California.

Still Growing - Sturdy ivy growing on an old stone house in Pennsylvania. In the middle of winter with very cold temperatures and wind, the vines and lichen here must be very hardy.

This wildflower is Orange Hawkweed (Pilosella aurantiaca), also called Tawny Hawkweed or Devils Paintbrush. The photo was taken in Sugar Hill, New Hampshire.

The Yo Yo ride in motion at the Clark County Fair in Logandale, Nevada at night. I love the light and dark with the colorful glowing lights.

It had been a few years since I photographed a Eurasian Pygmy Owl (Glaucidium passerinum) for the last time. Had it on the wish list for this autumn/winter, and as it seemed that there were a few around in the wider area of Helsinki my hopes grew... and got lucky.

The Eurasian Pygmy Owl is the smallest owl in Europe and sits here on top of the remains of a fairly normal sized Silver Birch (Betula pendula). Think it shows well how small this owl is, similar in size as a Blackbird. Happy Days!

February 2021, Photo Tour to Kuusamo, Finland - image 23:

The last image from the tour to Kuusamo. There I spent a lot of time at the Kitka river (Kitkajoki) to photograph White-throated Dippers (Cinclus cinclus) . The circumstances were perfect; many Dippers, fresh snow, and thick ice. The only downside were the cold temperatures, up to -29 degrees Celcius. It wasn’t always easy.

Focused mainly on shots with a longer exposure and used only a 70-200mm lens for that, just to get enough of that silky water in each shot. Experimented a lot, high key, low key, composition, and more.... it’s so much fun that you forget the cold temperatures rather fast.

I've always found it interesting how many of the older houses and barns were built so close to a road. Prior to the invention of the automobile, it was just more practical to be close to a road, allowing for easier loading and unloading of supplies. However with the coming of the automobile, the dirt roads that were intended for horse and carriage were mostly widened and paved over, and the residents would now be faced with increased traffic and a new type of road noise.

This photo was taken on Cole Plain Road in the rural town of Lisbon, New Hampshire.

The last time I photographed this particular Red-throated Diver (Gavia stellata) was back in May, when they were nesting in one of the national parks nearby, Nuuksio National Park, some 20 minutes drive from where I live. Now there were two chicks, and the parents have to bring in lots of fish. This is one of the adults. Happy Days.

Yes... backlit by the sun, -4 EV.

Dieses Foto entstand auf der diesjährigen Orchideenmesse in Neu-Ulm im Edwin-Scharff-Haus.

Egrets /ˈiːɡrət/ are herons which have white or buff plumage, and develop fine plumes (usually milky white) during the breeding season. Egrets are not a biologically distinct group from the herons and have the same build.

The Church of St. Peter and the square Spallanzani

The Church of St. Peter is a Roman Catholic church in Porto Venere, province of La Spezia, northern Italy, facing the Gulf of Poets.

It was officially consecrated in 1198. The part in white and black bands dating from the 13th century (probably made between 1256 and 1277), and was restored between 1931 and 1935. This part was derived from an older body, which consists of the early church, but left the bell tower is based on the chapel left of the presbytery.

The original church dates from the 5th century, in Syriac type, with rectangular plan and semicircular apse. It lost the title of parish in the late 14th century, in favor of the Church of San Lorenzo. It was officiated by the secular clergy until 1798. Underexposed close-up of a Red-throated Diver (Gavia stellata). Was happy to see that its red throat was kinda okish visible as it was lit by the upcoming sun.

Poor little chick had fallen from the nest and chirped sadly on the stump. Hopefully it's mother picked her up later. I don't know which chick this is. Maybe some of viewers might inform me.
