[No CROP] From the Mountain of la Clape between Gruissan and Narbonne, a pretty view of the Bages ponds, the Corbières chain, and, towering, Mount Canigou (2784m) and the Pyrenees.
Le massif du Canigou dans les Pyrénées n'est pas loin de cette vallée du Tet, ici en Avril la neige et encore présente à 2 784 m.
The Canigou massif in the Pyrenees is not far from this Tet valley, here in April the snow and still present at 2,784 m.
Earlier in the day I had climbed Pic Canigou which entailed 6,500 feet of vertical ascent. It was a thoroughly enjoyable day that I had spent on my own on account of Mark having picked up a bug. He stayed much lower down in a decent hotel, however my home for the night was Refuge des Cortelets which was just a few hundred yards from this spot. After sharing a beer and evening meal with the refuge full of French and Spaniards I chose to take an amble to catch the last of the sun. Of course I returned for another beer with my new found climbing pals.
Macro pris à mon "point de vue" .
J'ai choisi un point de vue offrant un large panorama sur la plaine et le Canigou, je poste les photos prises de cet endroit sous le nom de: Millavue.
The Pic du Canigou is close to 3,000m high and marks the first or last high drama of the Pyrenees. It rises like the Kilimanjaro and is visible from boarder areas of France and Spain, at times as far as the Mediterranean sea.
Barely 9am and already the summit of the Pic du Canigou, at 2785m/9137ft, the highest peak in the eastern Pyrenees and a mountain sacred to Catalans, was inundated with folk.
This group seemed oblivious to the fact that there were other people around, and I seem to remember thinking "Is every single one of the 18 going to take a photo of the other 17 with the summit cross and Catalan flag?!"
The "Billy No Mates" sitting to the side is me & I was shivering even though in full sun! Thankfully the walk out would prove delightfully warm.

The scree-strewn upper slopes of the ascent of the Pic du Canigou from the Mariailles Refuge. A walk which remains fresh in the memory despite it being done over 17 years ago. A precious memory also since it was done in the company of my son, who was by then the stronger partner, so someone able to bale me out if I had got into any difficulties!
