Cancer has touched the lives of all of us. Each year, it takes the lives of more than half a million Americans and seven million people worldwide.

Cynthia Nixon and Edie Falco will appear in this PSA to encourage cancer patients to win back some control in their lives by managing their treatment. In their role as the campaign ambassadors, Falco and Nixon appear to encourage people to better understand their options and provide support for managing their care.

Thinking about my mom and her journey until she died peacefully at 100 this January ...

Top left: my grandparents had my mother's portrait painted on ivory in 1929 ... she was going away to college (Skidmore)

Top right: my mother and I when my father was away on Iwo Jima in WWII (taken in Jamaica, NY)

Bottom left: we lived in Morocco from 1954-1956 ... my father was in the Air Force then ...

It's been 13+ weeks since Opa's diagnosis of Osteosarcoma (bone cancer) and her leg amputation. She has had 3 of her 4 rounds of chemo and her recent chest x-ray was clear!

Here she is playing with her toy this morning in the early morning light...

A mermaid emerges from the depths with her hippocampus friend to explore the fairelands and leave pearls behind to honor memories of those whose battles are over and to give strength to those who continue the fight...

The women's 5k at the CT Race in The Park in New Britain on Saturday.

My friend Cheryl and the two women we painted today. This is three generations here. I painted the lady on the left and Cheryl painted the one in the black shirt. Both women flanking me are breast cancer survivors who wanted to be painted to celebrate their bodies. The lady on the right authored a book on her experience of surviving breast cancer three times. She is truly an inspiration. We painted them and she painted abstract paintings for each of us. It was a great trade and a great day for us all.

My husband has just been diagnosed with terminal metastatic pancreatic cancer that has invaded his spine, liver, abdomen, and lymphatic system. The doctors have sent him home to die, but that's not my truth. I believe, in every cell of my body, that he can be healed. We are throwing every compatible holistic therapy at his cancer, and I believe that we can be triumphant. I made this graphic to remind us of what it will take to survive and overcome this cancer. I'll be placing them all over the house.

Part of the cancer series. These didn't come out as good as I would have liked. I wanted to try the projection in a different location.

It's something to experiment with.

This shot was the last shot so I tried something different just for the fun of it.

I'm thinking of creating a Light Painting charity group, check out the discussion on Light Junkies.

Maj. Lisa Ray, 440th Airlift Wing chief of Public Affairs, left, stands with her step mother Kathy Grantham, a cancer survivor. Grantham holds a painting she did as part of an art therapy program offered by the Friends of the Cancer Center, a non-profit Fayetteville organization that assists those fighting cancer.

This is Fiona and her best friend Lizzy. They ride the special needs bus together to school and have been attending together since they were three. I think pretty much everyone knows Fiona has autism, but her best friend Lizzy (who lives next door to us) is deaf. Actually about 70% deaf. She's also a cancer survivor. They have this love hate relationship. They love each other to death, but get into fights with each other on the bus over silly things, like one looking at the other one. I know...kinda silly, but they're both special needs, so it's a big deal to them. Anyway, they are pretty much inseparable, especially now that school is finally out and it's summer and they get to play outside a lot (usually at my house because I have a trampoline and a pool and a fenced in backyard). I think it's great that she has someone on her level that understands her right next door. That's not too easy in a small town. Most people just don't understand at all.

Week 36 of 52 Weeks for Dogs for my Zooie

Most of the photos I have of Zooie show him with a gentle, perhaps slightly worried look on his face. He is the least expressive of my pack but has the most expressive eyes.

Zooie seems to be feeling well. His back legs have been holding up well lately. I haven't noticed any stumbling or tripping. It's still fairly warm here and not yet cool enough for Zooie's long walks. I'll know more once we are going for our long walks again. For now, he looks good!

Members of the Bacon Believes team, l to r: Cathy Maher, Linda Iacobellis and Barb Gilbert cross the finish line during the women's 5k at the CT Race in The Park in New Britain on Saturday.

Another shot from today~ He reminds me soooo much of my brother in this one (makes me miss him very much). We're so blessed to have Evan here with us, happy and healthy :-)

Los Angeles Zoo - Los Angeles, California - Randa, an Indian (or greater one-horned) rhinoceros, was born at Zoo Basel in Switzerland on 10/5/69. She moved to the United States in 1970, living first at the Houston Zoo in Houston, Texas and then at the Gladys Porter Zoo in Brownsville, Texas. She moved to her current home at the Los Angeles Zoo on 11/22/74.

Randa is currently the oldest living Indian rhinoceros in captivity. She is also a cancer survivor, having undergone successful cancer treatment after being diagnosed with a type of aggressive cancer affecting her horn in 2009.

This bracelet is in honor of all women. Who amongst us has not been touched by the devastating effects of breast cancer and its treatment? If you or someone special in your life has been involved in the fight against this disease, this bracelet salutes you.

It features at the center a serene meditating goddess charm of pewter, surrounded by charms and beads in various shades of pink including four enameled pink ribbon charms, glass hearts, beautiful swirl lampwork beads, Czech glass beads, pink rose beads, India glass beads, and other complementary bead dangles on a sterling silver plated chain measuring approximately 7.5."

The black cross was an unexpected pleasure. The teal blue reminds me of a turquoise ring I had as a kid.. So this is nature and faith all in one abstract.

Over the years, cancer treatment has gained huge importance and support from scholars and researchers. PathSOS involves nanotechnology to work on the cancerous cells with the use of heat, radiation, nanoparticles like CRLX101
