Went up island looking for bluebirds and ended up with snowbirds. Who knew? Had to shoot hand held with the 600mm.

Shot of the Royal Canadian Air Force Snowbirds at Rockford Air Festival. The overcast skies didn't help much, a clear blue sky as a backdrop would have been much more interesting, maybe some other day!

A CH-113 Labrador in Search and Rescue (SAR) colours. This airframe was in service from 1964 - 2004.
Over those forty years, the very sight of this SAR workhorse would be cause of both feelings of elation and relief, for thousands of men, women and children, who would see it coming over the horizon - to their rescue. Often hearing it long before they could see it. Airlifting them from remote communities, ships at sea (often pitching in the dark in horrible storms), plane crash sites in the remote wilderness and pretty much anywhere else you can imagine across Canada's diverse and remote topography.
As their motto says "So Others May Live."

CAF 10742 - Canadair CP-107 Argus 2 - Canadian Armed Forces
at the Canada Aviation & Space Museum, Ottawa Rockcliffe Airport (YRO)
c/n 33 - built in 1960
This Argus was the last one built. It was manufactured by Canadair Limited in Montreal, Quebec in 1960. It operated with No. 415 Squadron RCAF in Greenwood, Nova Scotia from 1960 to 1978, when it was transferred to Canadian Forces Base Summerside in Prince Edward Island. It served there until 1982 and was then retired and transferred to the Museum in a May 17, 1982 ceremony. The Argus is the largest aircraft in the collection and the Museum's hangar doors were designed to accommodate it.
The many years in outdoor storage in the Canadian climate has not done good for the airframe
The Canadian Forces Snowbirds Demonstration Team have chosen this photograph to be used as their exclusive 2011 'lithograph' which they give to airshow executives and VIP's.
French 75mm Field Gun Model 1897 on display at the Military Museum located at Canadian Forces Base Borden in Simcoe County Ontario Canada
This field gun was captured by the Germans who added a pepper pot break and undercarriage to use as an anti-tank gun.
The placard in the Museum reads WWI French Gun A.B.S. 1916 #9108
The French 75mm Cannon of 1897 was a revolutionary design which made all other guns obsolete. Incorporating the first modern recoil system, a fixed round of ammunition (loaded in one step), a quick action breech and a gun shield, it was capable of extremely high rates of fire. The French 75mm led all armies to adopt similar guns, which made the First World War so deadly. The 75mm Cannon served with the French Army until 1940. Captured examples were used as anti-tank guns by Germany in 1944. 75mm Cannons with wooden wheels were even issued to some Canadian Artillery units in England in 1940 due to the shortage of modern equipment after the British Army was evacuated from Dunkirk.
Weight of Projectile: 7.25 kg (16 pounds)
Range: 8,500 meters (9,300 yards)
Detachment: Gun, towing vehicle and 6 Gunners (Canada 1940)
