It's hard not to shake with this guy flying into your lens. White-breasted nuthatch, Sitta carolinensis.
This is the back of a Nikon F5, an analogue camera for professional photographers. I like to use it for its ruggedness but especially for its infallible light meter which is better than any in-camera meter before - and also after.
Though its build quality arguably is exceptional, it still can develop some problems. With mine, the four-way selector that is used to toggle the AF points suddenly stopped working.
The F5 has five AF points, arranged in the form of a cross. When the selector failed, the lowermost one happened to be selected. That would have been rather inconvenient, but I managed to get around that by pressing the green BKT and CSM buttons simultaneously for 5 seconds. This resets the camera, so that at lest the centre AF point is now selected.
However, I still can't select other AF points, so I suspect there is a problem with the electrical contacts inside the four way selector. I tried blowing pressurised air below the selector, but that did not make it work.
Does anyone else have an idea what one could do, short of disassembling the selector, cleaning the contacts and putting it all back together? I guess I could also try to get a functioning back door from an old F5 where something else has failed and put that on my camera body.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
I can also go on using the camera as it is now with just one functioning AF point, but if I can fix it, I will because I just happen to be one of these annoying people who don't like it when things don't work 100%.

For today's post I wanted to go back a little further in time than I usually do and share this before winter is completely gone. Here we have a great wool coat by !APHORISM! in a more 1960s-inspired style. Longer coats for women in the 1960s generally lacked a waistline and barely flared at the bottom to make a sort of A-line shape. Designers liked to make women look more doll-like during this time also with designs like big collars, big buttons and big pocket flaps. Skirt hems got shorter and shorter during this time and coats followed suit and even went so far as to make coat dresses as seen here.
I've paired that here with a example of another 1960s staple by Miss Chelsea; the go-go boot. Square heeled boots such as this style or the Mod-inspired Chelsea boot took over the decade. The go-go style was invented in the middle of the decade and famously worn by Barbra Streisand , and was further popularized by Nancy Sinatra's "These Boots Were Made for Walkin'" .
Early examples of the Cycle Poco and the Folding Poco cameras with uncommon black leather covering on the interior. Made by the Rochester Camera Manufacturing Co. in c 1896.
