On the 23rd January 2025 Dutch coaster 'Amadeus Amethist' (2000, 2,688DWT) arrives at Teignmouth from Rotterdam. Some nice sun after a thunder and hail.

Built as the 'Crescent Seine' by Bodewes Scheepswerf of Foxhol, Netherlands, the vessel was time chartered to Crescent Shipping Limited, probably better known as London and Rochester Trading Co. Ltd until March 1986. It was the last dry cargo vessel delivered to the company which had operated over 100 dry cargo motor vessels and 242 sailing vessels prior to leaving the dry cargo market in 2003.

This picture just to me just makes me feel calm. I remembered the reason why I got into photography, because looking at beautiful photos makes me feel something indescribable. So I wanted to create pieces that expressed my feelings/ made people feel things

Les paupières closes,

le temps s’arrête un instant.

Avant le jour,

il y a ce silence profond.

Eyes gently closed,

time pauses for a moment.

Before the day begins,

there is this deep silence.

I have always sneered in distaste at dogs that go all spasmodic when they meet new people. I don’t particularly enjoy having my thighs bruised by horny claws and my clothes slathered with substances that when dry take on a rather a suspect sheen.

An embarrassed laugh is reeled out as a nose thrusts towards my groin. “I already have a gynaecologist who I am very happy with thank you and her nose is far warmer than yours.” I gush with flushed cheeks, gracious smiles and a colossal inner rage building.

Just lately though I have been trawling my neighbourhood actively looking for dogs to thrust my groin at, working them up into a frenzy with high pitched baby talk and patting of my thighs just so that I can try out the techniques of my new hero; the dog whisperer.

It’s all about showing dominance.

Caesar Millan uses his fingers as a ‘bite’ to correct a dog’s undesired behaviour, that and a ‘tssh’ noise. Hey presto, within two bites and one ‘tssh’ the dog is lolling in a ‘calm submissive state’ at Caesar’s feet to the astonishment of the woman who originally bought Attila the Rottweiler as a baby substitute but then called in the dog whisperer when he started instead to eat babies.

Should Caesar Millan discover a particularly troublesome mutt, he takes it home to his pack where it can learn some manners via a kind of prison exercise ground environment where Caesar is the screw.

The dog whisperer’s methods can be just as effectively applied in human situations too.

The office where I work has a well established little pack of three, all fairly even in temperaments and no one is overly aggressive. We play ball together very happily indeed. Suddenly, one day in comes a new dog.

Caesar will not let an unbalanced dog that isn’t calm submissive enter the pack environment because it will upset the bum sniffing equilibrium and a fight will ensue. But there was no Caesar in the office to ‘tssh’ him and so in came the new dog all fired up and nipping at our inquisitive noses. I went to greet new dog (let’s call him Biggety boss) as a calm, balanced employee and was metaphorically bitten. He had felt it necessary to try to exert dominance by belittling my typing and dictation skills, or lack thereof. Having upset one dog this feeling spread throughout the pack causing terrible tension - long periods Googling had to be abandoned, we no longer dragged our worm ridden bums across the carpet, the office regularly fell silent when ordinarily the air would be filled with guffawing and the odd parp, or rather parping followed by guffaws.

The moment Biggety Boss belittled me I should have tsshed him and jabbed his neck.

In the meantime though it has been unnecessary to use the tssh and jab as the pack has successfully rehabilitated him. He may soon even be parping and guffawing along with us.

We should all use the bite and tssh in everyday life to correct unwanted behaviour.

Couples need no longer endure lengthy sulks, bickering or nagging. Instead when your other half does something you aren’t happy with – jab and tssh. No explanation necessary, no explanation offered. Simply deemed unacceptable behaviour – correct them and ignore them.

The formula for a balanced, well behaved dog = Exercise, discipline, affection – also applicable to men.
