Another photo from Bardastrond where I have been working lately. I went out one evening to take some pictures because the weather was so calm and beautiful...
A caution: What I have written below is not graphic, but it may be too sad for some to read. If you're grieving a death, you might want to go on to my next picture, of a friendly dog. The following is a brief reflection with the Alzheimer's Disease group in mind. . .
Janice said she was thankful to have been walking together in the woods at the county's Audubon Society preserve when her brother called. He never calls just to chat, and she couldn't have chosen a better place.
"This is not 'The Call,'" he announced quickly. He was not breaking the news that their mother had died. However, the health professionals believe that it will be soon. She is no longer eating or receiving hydration.
At the end of the conversation, as Janice sat on the trunk of a fallen tree, her brother asked if she had any questions.
No, she said calmly. No questions. Tiny birds flitted around her as she turned the tables and tried to comfort him. In the course of her work in retirement communities, Janice has helped people to die. It can be a beautiful thing. She's worked with people who have Alzheimer's Disease, and she's known for a long time what to expect with her mother. It seems that much of her energy, and most of her thoughts over the past two and one-half years, have been leading up to this time. There are no questions left to ask.
Since Sunday, when she received the call, Janice has been both calm and distracted. Her thoughts are with her mother in the present, but no longer flooding with memories. She's already worked through them sufficiently to face what's about to happen.
Her knowledge of Alzheimer's makes her realize that there is no turning back. Her faith leads her to trust that death is an event in life. An event that her mother needs.
Caught this between storms today. Just loved the way the sun created a rainbow on Bridal Veil Falls. Another great day in Yosemite!
A rather calm morning with almost no breeze at all today. This is the Dundee end of the Tay Road Bridge, Scotland

Dead calm.
