Caper White butterfly (Belenois java) is a common yet striking species across tropical and subtropical Australia. Recognizable by its soft white wings edged with dark markings, it is best known for its seasonal mass migrations. Adults feed on nectar from a wide range of flowering plants, while the larvae develop primarily on caper bushes (Capparaceae). On calm mornings like this one, Caper Whites are often seen resting with wings half-open, absorbing warmth before becoming active for the day.

Just arrived from the big city - this silence, this peace...

I have recently (September 2023) been going through a major re-organization of both my film and digital images and came across a series of shots I took back in July of 2005 of Corporation Beach in Dennis, Massachusetts, with my first proper DSLR, a Canon 10D (6MP sensor). I reworked some of these and came up with this blend of seven stacked 30-second exposures, each taken one right after the other with the camera mounted on a tripod. I love that, in contrast to the chaos behind them, there is a very peaceful group (including my two children) enjoying sitting around a bonfire on the beach who seem oblivious to the grand display of thunder and lightning that is approaching.

Beautiful low light and calmness, helped with a LEE little stopper for a slightly longer exposure.
