As you can see I've run out of ideas for titles of callas. Oh well.
This is the pride of Home Depot - not from our garden - but I still think it's almost worthy. I had fun playing with my lights again.
Lighting stuff: I used side lighting here here to create the shadows that reveal shapes and textures. The hero light was a Yongnuo flash in a soft box and was triggered by a Yongnuo trigger.
I have other Calla lily pictures in my cleverly titled Calla Lily set if you like that sort of thing.

Calla flower - Testing the limits of the exposure
We bought a calla lily yesterday with the idea of taking some photos of the beautiful flower. Sadly, the flower was damaged in the car on the way home. I therefore decided to focus in on parts of the flower and the leaves instead of the entire flower. Hopefully the plant will produce another flower.

Other pictures that were either taken in black and white or converted to black and white can be seen, logically enough, in my Black and White album.
Calla Lilies, often called Arum Lilies, Pig Lilies and Zantedeschia, are native to South Africa. White Calla Lilies are extremely popular for wedding flowers and at Easter time. I have the purple and white variety growing in my garden.
i have a calla lily issue
which likely stems (no floral pun intended) from having georgia o'keeffe issues
which may also explain my desert southwest issues
it's just all those other *issues* i need to work out now

My grandmother carried calla lilies at her wedding and I was always intrigued since we usually associate them with death. A few months before he died, and the last time I saw him, my grandfather asked me to plant some bulbs at her grave though he knew they most likely wouldn't last through the New York winter.
Years later I tried to find some to bury with him but they were not to be found anywhere on Long Island in the summer. A few months later I ended up in California where they literally grow like weeds.
And I carried some at my own wedding.
