I was recently on a Neil Zeller photo tour of the city. A visit up the Calgary Tower was an upexpected and nice perk! I hadn't been up in many years and the views were pretty good for a cloudy day.
The Calgary Peace Bridge is a bridge that accommodates people walking and cycling across the Bow River. The bridge was designed by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava and opened on March 24, 2012

Fort Calgary was established in 1875 as Fort Brisebois by the North-West Mounted Police at the confluence of the Bow and Elbow rivers, on traditional Niitsitapi (Blackfoot) territory in what is now called Calgary. The fort was built to control the illegal American whiskey trade, to make way for the coming Canadian Pacific Railway, and to create 'good relations' with the Indigenous peoples of the territory. The site was purchased by the City of Calgary in 1974 and reopened in 1978 as a historic site and museum.
Often on my walks around town I take my bucket and litter picker along and clean up what I can , on the whole the city is very clean and on this day I did around 10 to 12 bucket fulls. every bit helps that is for sure.
I think everybody was expecting this, but it was still a big blow to hear the official announcement. The Stampede had been running continuously for more than 90 years, through depressions and wars. Even the disastrous floods of June 2013, which swamped all the buildings and facilities on the Stampede Grounds, didn't stop the show from going on in July of the same year. I didn't make it out last year, but had a great time there in 2018, and will repost images from that time, or mine the archives for ones I haven't shared yet... It will be a VERY quiet summer...
After hours of rain the rodeo show started. It was a battle of mud. Impressive experience although from my point of view this kind of horse sport could be criticised.
Nach stundenlangem Regen am Morgen war die große Rodeo eine einzige Schlammschlacht. Eine durchaus beeindruckende Veranstaltung, obwohl ich diese Form von Pferdesport eher kritisch sehe.
