Calgary downtown June 7 panorama 10 frames 70mm vertical 1 row. while everyone was chasing the big storms I was sticking close to home shooting the new moon and the now distant storm to the right side of this 95 megapixel frame

the recent warm weather has really made it fun to shoot the night reflections, 2 years ago the river was frozen solid during the Polar Vortex of 2014. my same shot was from the middle of the river:)

Canada- Campagna zona Calgary

Calgary, a cosmopolitan Alberta city with numerous skyscrapers, owes its rapid growth to its status as the centre of Canada’s oil industry. However, it’s still steeped in the western culture that earned it the nickname “Cowtown,” evident in the Calgary Stampede, its massive July rodeo and festival that grew out of the farming exhibitions once presented here. ― Google

The Calgary Central Library, also known as the Calgary New Central Library (NCL), is the flagship branch of the Calgary Public Library system. It opened on November 1, 2018, replacing an earlier central branch built in the 1960s in Downtown Calgary.

The four-storey building cost CA$245 million to construct and was designed by American-Norwegian architecture firm Snøhetta and Canadian firm DIALOG after the two firms' joint bid won a design competition in 2013. Their design features an oval-like form and an interior with a large central atrium with a skylight. The building is elevated one floor above street level to accommodate a Calgary light rail trackway below, as well as a public plaza.

The entrance is framed by wood-clad arches inspired by the shape of arched clouds made by Chinook winds in Alberta. The upper floors feature book stacks with space for 450,000 titles. Landscaping around the library and adjoining plaza consists of terracing inspired by the foothills of the Canadian Rockies. (Wikipedia)

Often on my walks around town I take my bucket and litter picker along and clean up what I can , on the whole the city is very clean and on this day I did around 10 to 12 bucket fulls. every bit helps that is for sure.

I have photographed this scene near my home so many times. This year I noticed that the lone pine tree at the end of the island that anchors the composition is dead.

As the sun dipped toward the horizon, painting the Calgary skyline in a brilliant, molten gold, our youngest had the controls for a tour of the city from a perspective few get to see. From the back seat, the experience was a study in contrasting emotions. There is the undeniable, chest-swelling pride of a step-father watching him navigate the complexities of the sky with such steady confidence. Every smooth adjustment and calculated turn over the Bow River felt like a testament to his growth and discipline.

Across the cabin, however, a mother’s love manifested in a different way. While her eyes marveled at the shadow-streaked towers and the vibrant pulse of the streets below, her hands gripped the armrests just a little tighter with every bank of the wings. Each figure-eight brought a fresh wave of quiet nervousness—that instinctual urge to protect, even as she watched him master the very air that carried us. It was a beautiful, dizzying transition: seeing the boy we raised become the pilot leading us through the golden hour.

I needed to get to the downtown library, but didn't have a lot time and couldn't take transit like I would normally. But then I remembered the new downtown parking garage (know colloquially here as a 'Parkade') has finally opened, and it looks architecturally interesting. The views from the parkade were new and different, and the interiors were fascinating, but I'll post some of those later. In this series, I have posted a shot from inside the elevator, as it was of a design I have never encountered before.

VIEW FROM OLYMPIC PLAZA

I revisited several archival images of Canada recently. Here's one taken of the Calgar skyline I missed the first time around.
