I came to Calgary on a family trip. I immediately noticed the change in landscape from Vancouver's mountains (oh it's so obvious, it's punching you in the face)... My favourite part of Calgary was actually the clouds.
Over the last little while I have noticed that I am inspired more by television and movies and less by photos. (Is that strange?) My first camera was a camcorder, afterall. I don't have any photos from high school, they're all videos. I don't have to say it again.... "Breaking Bad" is one inspiring show for anyone who is stimulated by intense visuals. Myself, especially.
On a completely different note, (I need to get this off my chest), M. Night Shyamalan has not only disgraced the original source material for "Avatar: The Last Airbender" but he disgraced the entire medium of filmmaking. That movie was terrible. From the casting, to the execution, to simply framing shots?!?! There are no words.
This was shot during the floods of 2013 in Calgary. The lights are out for the most part due to flooding in the Downtown Core.

Most of the shots were focused on her with the skyline blurred out, but she nixed those ones, preferring this one instead.
There's denim in the air, and against all better judgement, the camera has a
mind of its own this morning.
When the weather isn't great, I'll sometimes use Calgary's excellent raised walkway system (AKA Plus 15 System) as a workout replacement for walking in one of the parks. Although I didn't measure this with a GPS, the route I walked today was about 8 km's. I park in Chinatown, as there is free parking on the streets there, until 9 a.m. The images portray only a fragment of this system, and there are many other interesting buildings and sights.
Calgary has about 18 kilometers and counting of these raised walkways with 63 bridges (more being added yearly with new construction). This makes Calgary’s plus 15 system the largest of its kind in the world according to the City of Calgary.

Calgary has many hundreds of Km's of pathways and cycle ways city crews make a great job of keeping them clear for all to enjoy.
It is really difficult to get good skyscraper pictures from ground level even with ultra wide angle lens. I gave up on straight lines eventually...

There was something about the angle of the sun yesterday afternoon that felt good. Even though it was a chilly winter day it felt like winter was on its way out.
On 10 March 2022, Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) CH-149 Cormorant serial 149903 (construction number 50071/CSH03) from 103 Search and Rescue Squadron Albert, was involved in a serious accident at its home base at Gander International Airport (Nfl.).
Six aircrew members were onboard the CH-149 which was conducting hovering manoeuvres before the aircraft went down. Two members are being treated at the hospital, while the other four have been released.
No information is available as to the nature of the accident. Pictures from the scene show the helicopter lying on its right hand side and an ambulance on the tarmac.
The RCAF originally operated a fleet of fifteen CH-149 Cormorants (Merlin EH101 Mk511), of which two have now been lost. The helicopters are operated by 103 Search and Rescue Squadron at Gander, 442 Search and Rescue Squadron at CFB Comox (B.C.) and 413 Transport and Rescue Squadron at CFB Greenwood (N.S.) I took this picture on June 23 2013 at Calgary International airport.
I've seen this 1958-1962 GAZ Volga in Calgary, in front of Ukrainian deli store Kalinka. Quite a surprise. The teller said the car belongs to a friend of them and was sitting in a Calgary backyard for years. No Canadian registration, the windows sticker shows this was on the roads on Ukraine in 2007.
