Weyerhauser has a Botanical Garden that you can visit, it is filled with flowers that are insanely colorful. After walking through a section of firey coral orange rhodedendrons I came across this patch of purple spears, all Iris that had not yet bloomed.
On the way out I asked on of the curators how long it would be until the blooms appeared and I was told that in the next day or so, and I was told that the color of blue was unbelievably intense and worth a visit to see.
I was so intriqued by the unopen buds that I drove back down there a couple days later just to see these unbeliable buds opened up. I must say that as I came around the bend in the pathway I stopped dead in my tracks when I saw the vivid bright limey green speckled with the most intense cobalt blue i have ever laid my eyes on.
Simply enchanting.

Caesar was a tad apprehensive as Jackie had made heavy weather on the little scramble up to Slight Side summit.
After that her plod onto Scafell was so slow she probablty reached the top a good 20 minutes or more after the others. She had been recovering from a nasty bug, and was determined to get Caesar to the top, and apologises for being grumpy when she got to the Scafell, better humour was restored on the way down.
Went to Basta Pasta for a friend's Birthday. They were participating in Restaurant Week but we went anyways.
I don't have pics because I had forgotten my memory cards! Argh!
Here's what we ordered..
Antipasti:
- Insalata di Cesare, Basta Pasta's original whole romaine Caesar salad
- Zuppa di Cozze e Vongole, Black mussels & clams, steamed in garlic and white wine
- Calamari alla Griglia, Grilled squid, roasted tomato, aioli sauce & mixed spices
with golden raisin, pine nut & prosciutto in curry risotto
- Bagna Cauda, Fresh vegetable sticks with warm anchovy cream dip (HOLY CRAP I LOVED THE ANCHOVY DIP!)
Second Piatti:
- Spigola dell'Ortalòlo, Roasted Chilean sea bass, asparagus, Brussels sprout, shiitake & baby fingerling potato with paprika aioli sauce
- Petto di Pollo al Impanato, Herb panko crusted free range chicken breast, with endive, porcini chip, truffle oil & lemon parmesan sauce (I had this. Chicken was very juicy and yummy)
- Faraona, Crispy guinea hen with green papaya, grapefruit, caramelized pecan nut & mustard sauce
- Maiale, Charcoal grilled Naiman ranch pork loin with mustard green, paprika paste, prosciutto pangrattato & olive flake
That was it for the night. We also saw something interesting...
Spaghetti con Prosciutto e Parmigiano - Spaghetti with Parmigiano Reggiano and Parma prosciutto,
served in half a wheel of Parmesan cheese at table

In today's Tijuana, only the Caesar's Sports Bar and Grill, next door to Hotel Caesars, is closest to the historical ground zero of the salad. Until around 1993, the restaurant in The Coronet Bar, and Restaurant Caesar's Palace (both defunct), competed with the restaurant in Hotel Caesars for the "best Caesar's Salad" in Tijuana.
This is the dog food developed by Dick Van Patten. Remember him? He was the dad on the tv shoe Eight Is Enough. Well, maybe I'm dating myself here, but anyway he has come up with a real winner for poochie chow. We call this puppy crack because Caesar goes 200% bonkers when we offer him some. It's probably the best treat we have found for training... although when we start with it Caesar gets so excited and worked up over this stuff that he can't sit still long enough to pay attention. Once he realizes what we want him to do he catches on fast and learns all kinds of new tricks.
Now if we could only figure out how to teach him to not freak out when someone knocks at the door. Or rings the doorbell. Or walks by the back door (in our apartment complex). Or when we go for a ride and he can't wait to get out of the car and sniff our new location. Or...

This is an ad from the Yorktown Crier/Poquoson Post, for Little Caesars. This was back when they were a hot chain, all the stores listed below the logo have closed. I wish they were still this popular.
