1953 Cadillac Series 62
Junction City, where I live, has a once a year event called the "Function for Junction", a classic old car show. The cars are on display during the day and they cruise the streets at dusk.
For some reason I'd totally forgotten they branded these as VW Caddys, a name synonymous for me with the Mk1 Golf based pickup. It wasn't until I was about to upload this picture that I even noticed the VW badge... The orange side repeater stands out here and was notably ill fitting (it looks better in the picture). I suspect it's a Polo 6N item - wonder if the owner couldn't find a correct Felicia item, or if they just assumed it was the same as the Polo.

A pin cushion caddy from the book "Seams to Me" by Anna Maria Horner! :) I had a lot fun making this! I didn't have interfacing that was sturdy enough for the inner circle. I thought I could do with a lighter cardboard, but no..you need a really firm interfacing otherwise it makes stuffing it more difficult when the sides decide to buckle a bit! :) I haven't put the bottom on yet...so it might get a little makeover! :) There are a couple of construction corrections on her flickr group discussions page and website that help make this easier to put together. If you've ever thought of making one, I highly recommend it! :)

This model is based on one of my all time favorite vehicles, the VW Caddy Mk1 pickup. This variant of the Mk1 Golf was love at first sight for me as a kid. I always had an eye for them, and much later in life a neighbor down the street had a similar work truck (with an LS V8 swap!). Searching for what to build next, the inspiration took over.
I built this Mk1 Caddy as a bumper-free model often seen in the VW tuner community. The stance is nice and low, but not too slammy as it is a work truck after all. A slightly janky wood-plank roof rack and wood-plank bed round out the look along with some fresh and springy plantings headed outbound to an eager customer.
A lovingly installed color-contrast driver door (with built-in primer feature) was recently donated by a local junkyard to really announce that the owner of this niche beater is, in fact, living upscale in all aspects of her life :)
On the detailing front, graphic inserts were employed for the headlights and tails, a custom printed VW grille logo features up front, and personalized plates at both ends dial in the unique look and feel of this Gardener’s faithful steed.
I hope you enjoy!
