The cables here are fed into the Signum cable trunking system attached to the underside of the desk.

Cable car 15 leaves the Barn for its inagural run. The original 15 was built in 1894 and retired a few years ago and would have been painted in the same color scheme used 1894-1902 by the original Market Street Railway Company.

Judging by the way the people on this cable car are dressed -- and because the guy in the white shirt is carrying his lunch -- they're probably using it to commute to work. In other words, they're San Franciscans, not tourists. I did the same thing ten years earlier (in the 60s) and on the same line (Powell-Hyde). But my ride started on Jackson Street, not here on Powell at Union Square.

The Lydbrook Cable Works was built in 1912 by Harold J Smith.
In the first world war the works had lots of contracts and employed 650 people. At the end of the war business slowed down and the official receiver was brought in around 1920.
Edison Swan Electric Company bought the business in 1925.
The Cable Works closed in 1966 and the Factory was bought by Reed Paper Group, And then was taken over by Swedish Company SCA.
The Sca Factory finally closed around 2003.
