What interested me in taking this photo is not the rail crossroads. If you look closely you will see one of the crossroads is going to the horizon. another one seems to end at the door of that hut shaped house. It really ends there. That seemed very interesting and unusual to me. Why the road ends there? What was there before that house?

The archetypal ‘Miles and miles of nothing but miles and miles’ fascinated me for its stark and uncluttered landscape. I pulled over to snatch this photographic memento of a part of the world I am unlikely ever to revisit. I thought of Cary Grant finding himself in a similar location, suddenly to get attacked by a crop-spraying biplane. No such drama for me, happily. My hired Mercury Cougar proved a plush and smooth mile-eater as I headed towards Saskatoon.

At one time, Worcester, Massachusetts was the crossroads of The New York, New Haven and Hartford, Boston & Albany, and Boston & Maine railroads'. Worcester's Union station fell into disrepair and eventual abandonment. Amtrak served Worcester well with a crude cookie cutter lunchbox station for years. From the 1970's until it's restoration in 1997, Union station was a seedy place, with vagrants and vandals taking over the former grand station. The New Haven Railroad advertisements for the "Shoreliner" painted on the side of the bridge were there for years, this is what it looked like on the night of June 10, 1989.

I'm at the crossroads of the Ghan railway line that runs from Adelaide to Darwin, this section is a 195km streatch of dirt road half way between Dunmarra and Top Springs.

The Crossroads Diner, believed to be the only diner built by the Campora Dining Car Company served it's last meal today. The diner opened on US 46 near Belvidere, New Jersey in 1956. The family that currently owns the diner retired after 40 years. Rumor has it that the diner will be replaced by a Dunkin' Donuts.

Lith printed on Foma Retrobrom 151 Sp and developed in Moersch Easy Lith.
Untoned.
Light Mordançage treatment and veils removed by careful pencil strokes. Hand coloured with aquarelle pens.
- And now Boy, you've received what you bought. A Blue(s) guitar.
But tell your friend Willie Brown, that you're standing at the Crossroads and believe you're sinking down.
Because that's the outcome of making a deal with the Devil.
