Brenda Baker’s installation Crib re-conceptualizes the meaning and function of a corncrib. Instead of mundane storage bins, Crib becomes a beacon of color and light that draws passers-by into the landscape. Using existing structures and a combination of natural and man-made materials, the piece plays off the colors, topography, and scale of the landscape. Baker is a practicing artist in Madison, Wis., where she lives with a flock of small farm animals, two boys and her husband. She works as Director of Exhibits for Madison Children’s Museum, and is deeply involved in both sustainable design and urban agriculture in education movements.

Bought this very inexpensive crib for a small grandchild. Interestingly it has caused more discussion and been played with far more than the old traditional plain wooden one ever has been. .
There are no before pictures of the crib, but it was the same color as the dresser was. Adam just went ahead and painted it before we put it together.
We're testing out that curtain to use as a canopy. It may or may not stay. :)

The crib in my church is a simple, rustic one - a rough wooden frame covered in hessian. This is the back view of Mary, who is kneeling beside the manger.
La Diff just opened a kid's section a couple of months ago. They only had a couple of different cribs to choose from, but that proved to be enough of a selection for us.

Other details include Shawplan etched BR arrows and nameplates. Body side grills painted correct shade of executive dark grey and BRUSH works builders plates added above the data panels. Finished with a light weathering to roof and chassis.
We were looking for a modern crib that also contained storage. We found this at Walmart and just painted the drawer a dark gray as well as a hand-me-down dresser we already had so they would match.

This week was pretty tame, except that today we went to Babies'r'us and started to get a handle on all this baby stuff that we'll need to acquire. There are so many things! We started, as you can see in the image, with the downpayment on our crib. It will arrive in 7-8 weeks and looks really nice. It's white. Once we were done with that we took their scanner around the store and registered for all kinds of baby stuff. We're a little afraid of what all this stuff will do to our apartment... which already feels bursting at the seams sometimes. Though some of the little outfits are extremely cute. It's a shame you won't be here to schedule photo shoots with! The pictures of Vena's kids are so amazing... you're really getting the nack of child photography!
After all this we went to the distillery for some browsing of a photo store, as well as a cool gadget store we were given a gift certificate for. We decided we didn't really need anything and walked away empty handed... the stuff was nice though. No need to add to the collection of 'random stuff' when we know there will be a lot of new things coming in February!
