The famous Nativity ensemble in St. Mary’s Cathedral has always been a highlight of Advent in Linz. Restaged as an interactive and audiovisual 3D Christmas experience, this year the entire Nativity scene shines in perfect splendor for the first time in virtual reality – not only in the crypt of Linz Cathedral, but also in Deep Space 8K at the Ars Electronica Center.
With the help of the non-intrusive process of photogrammetry, the entire ensemble as well as the crib architecture and the landscape were digitally preserved in all their delicate details. As an immersive Advent program, the nativity scene is intended to conjure up pre-Christmas tranquility in the hearts of visitors. The virtual restaging of the Christmas story follows a theological dramaturgy that ensures a rich and colorful Christmas season and shows the Nativity scene in different representations around the celebration. Only gradually will the famous characters appear on the virtual stage during the time around Christmas.

There are no before pictures of the crib, but it was the same color as the dresser was. Adam just went ahead and painted it before we put it together.
I made myself a mobile baby station... that cart was $8 at Aldi. :)
We're testing out that curtain to use as a canopy. It may or may not stay. :)

Brenda Baker’s installation Crib re-conceptualizes the meaning and function of a corncrib. Instead of mundane storage bins, Crib becomes a beacon of color and light that draws passers-by into the landscape. Using existing structures and a combination of natural and man-made materials, the piece plays off the colors, topography, and scale of the landscape. Baker is a practicing artist in Madison, Wis., where she lives with a flock of small farm animals, two boys and her husband. She works as Director of Exhibits for Madison Children’s Museum, and is deeply involved in both sustainable design and urban agriculture in education movements.

Cream cheese vanilla cake with white chocolate cream cheese buttercream, Pure chocolate crib, chocolate rug, chocolate bows, and chocolate baby. Fondant accents/details.
Chocolate was used to glue the crib into place so it would not move. Modeled teddy bear was suppose to hide the chocolate, forgot to add the teddy.
Cake board was used under the rug or baby blanket to support the crib, cake was doweled with straws for added support for the crib.
