ESA astronaut Matthias Maurer is suited, booted and ready for his Cosmic Kiss mission. As a member of US Commercial Crew-3 he will be launched to the International Space Station in a Crew Dragon spacecraft in around one month’s time for his first six-month stay in orbit.
Matthias is pictured in the SpaceX spacesuit that he will wear alongside his crew mates, NASA astronauts Kayla Barron, Thomas Marshburn and Raja Chari, during their journey to and from space.
Each SpaceX spacesuit is tailor-made for its wearer. The helmet is 3D printed and its gloves are designed to work with the touchscreens on board. The suit’s primary purpose is to protect astronauts from the unlikely event of depressurisation. However, it also helps regulate an astronaut’s body temperature and provides hearing and fire protection.
When an astronaut enters the Dragon capsule, they plug the suit into their seat using an umbilical. This provides the electronics to power communications, air to cool the suit and gas to pressurise the garment when needed.
This suit is only worn in the Crew Dragon capsule, not during spacewalks. Matthias is trained and certified in both the US Extravehicular Mobility Unit (EMU) and Russian Orlan spacesuits for any spacewalk he may perform in orbit.
Matthias will be launched from Launch Complex 39A at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida no earlier than Sunday, 31 October.
During his six-month mission known as ‘Cosmic Kiss’, Matthias will support numerous European and international experiments in microgravity. Knowledge gained as a result of his mission will shape the future of space exploration and help enhance life on Earth.

Gently pulsing though the glitter like plankton these stunning Jelly Fish look like space faring starships on a long voyage though the cosmos. Their space of course is the Pacific Ocean and they are but one of the many amazing exhibits at California's premier Monterey Bay Aquarium. About the size of my hand, they moved quickly though the cylinder tank which added to the complexity of getting this shot.
A member of the White Spotted Jellyfish this particular species has a brilliant natural blue tint. The stinging tentacles varied from white to a yellowish tint. No doubt the bright spotted markings are telling potential predators that they might want
to rethink this as their lunch special.

This is my first ever post that knowingly has a nasty window violation (top right corner). I did not want to crop around it and eliminate the fantastic roof and stalactite on the top left of the image. If I were versed in stereomasken, this problem could be solved. Hey I know someone who does that very, very well!
To see this picture in 3D, sit 2-3 feet from the monitor and gently cross your eyes so that the two images become three. The one in the middle will be in 3D. If you are finding this difficult, you may be trying too hard. Viewing full screen is best.

To the Ego the self is suggestive.
Some people think it is important to follow a path to enlightenment.
Some of them had a glimpse of it and want more of the truth lying in them (their selves).
Mystic may be a help for some seekers.

Du bist und wirst, was du denkst.

I caught this sun dog as I was setting up a timelapse of the sunset, and liked how it "sat" in the tree along with the sun, which made me think of how batteries work.
This is how I usually come up with titles for my photos, the main idea coming from where ever the image takes my subconscious.

The Cosmic Ray is a Blacktron II Vic Viper class ship.
The ship is fuelled with MBCs (Multipurpose Battery Cell, used to fuel all the Blacktron II ships, ground vehicles and equipment) the same power source that its predecessor, the Nebula III but it’s equipped with twin engines for maximal speed efficiency. The Cosmic Ray relies on just two singles front blasters for its protection. The ship’s weapon downgrade comparing to the previous model is due to the engineers efforts to increase speed efficiency.

This light-year-long knot of interstellar gas and dust resembles a caterpillar on its way to a feast. But the meat of the story is not only what this cosmic caterpillar eats for lunch, but also what's eating it. Harsh winds from extremely bright stars are blasting ultraviolet radiation at this "wanna-be" star and sculpting the gas and dust into its long shape.
The culprits are 65 of the hottest, brightest known stars, classified as O-type stars, located 15 light-years away from the knot, towards the right edge of the image. These stars, along with 500 less bright, but still highly luminous B-type stars make up what is called the Cygnus OB2 association. Collectively, the association is thought to have a mass more than 30,000 times that of our Sun.
The caterpillar-shaped knot, called IRAS 20324+4057, is a protostar in a very early evolutionary stage. It is still in the process of collecting material from an envelope of gas surrounding it. However, that envelope is being eroded by the radiation from Cygnus OB2. Protostars in this region should eventually become young stars with final masses about one to ten times that of our Sun, but if the eroding radiation from the nearby bright stars destroys the gas envelope before the protostars finish collecting mass, their final masses may be reduced.
Spectroscopic observations of the central star within IRAS 20324+4057 show that it is still collecting material quite heavily from its outer envelope, hoping to bulk up in mass. Only time will tell if the formed star will be a "heavy-weight" or a "light-weight" with respect to its mass.
This image of IRAS 20324+4057 is a composite of Hubble Advanced Camera for Surveys data taken in green and infrared light in 2006, and ground-based hydrogen data from the Isaac Newton Telescope in 2003, as part of the IPHAS H-alpha survey. The object lies 4,500 light-years away in the constellation Cygnus.
