Alfred C Gardner designed this electrically-powered Sherzer rolling lift road bridge. The contractors were Sir William Arrol & Co, who built just about every important bridge in Britain: both Forth Bridges, Severn Bridge, Tay Bridge, Tower Bridge, Middlesborough Transporter Bridge ... It would be easier to list the bridges they didn't build.

A global coup d’état has taken place by transnational organisations aided by political leaders. Just 149 have true global reach & influence and these colossal organisations, many larger than national economies, control well over 1/4 of global economic activity, whilst 80% of the world’s population are left out completely, marginalised or are net losers as a result. Of the 100 largest economies in the world, 51 are corporations; only 49 are countries. Wal-Mart is bigger than 161 countries. Mitsubishi is larger than the 4th most populous nation on earth: Indonesia. General Motors is bigger than Denmark, Ford bigger than South Africa.
The top 200 corporations are bigger than the combined economies of 182 countries & have twice the economic influence than 80 per cent of all humanity.
These same 200 global corporations employ less than 1/3 of 1% of the world’s people – just 18.8 million.
Trading, automobiles, banking, retailing & electronics are where most corporate concentration accumulates and even then 1/3 of all trade is transactions among various units of the same corporation.
Corporations now place their profits in ultra low or no tax jurisdictions and their losses in high-tax ones, where an estimated $32 trillion is shielded from making any contribution to the societies they extract their wealth from with little or no scrutiny from government’s.
Epic financial crimes, monumental tax evasion, ecological damage on an industrial scale and non-stop illegal wars to ensure a never-ending resource supply is a shameful system based on corporate greed.
The situation continues to deteriorate as politicians abandon any fragments of morality in favour of lucrative revolving door careers leaving entire nations with little more than the hollowed out remains of once thriving economies based on manufacturing and the corpse of democracy.
One of the nation’s largest diversified media companies, the Hearst Corporation owns 29 television stations, two radio stations, 15 daily newspapers, 15 U.S. magazines (including Town & Country, Esquire, and Cosmo), 20 U.K. magazines, 20 business-to-business information services, some of the most widely syndicated cartoons and newspaper columns in the world.
Hearst approached Nesnadny + Schwartz to reconceive and produce its in-house magazine, @Hearst. That’s a little like Julia Child asking you to rustle her up some supper.
Even huge media conglomerates with high-profile brands in their portfolios sometimes have run-of-the-mill employee newsletters. That’s what we didn’t want to do.
Instead we developed a quarterly, feature-driven “mini-magazine” with a bold style (not unlike Hearst’s high-profile properties). Each issue revolved around a theme relevant to Hearst’s seven divisions and 100+ brands: from race and the media (with the first Black supermodel ever featured on the cover of a major fashion magazine) to Katrina (with features ranging from the challenges of forecasting disaster to covering the aftermath).

In the Legal Services Corporation Act of 1974, Congress established that the mandate of the Legal Services Corporation was to "provide "high quality legal assistance to those who would be otherwise unable to afford adequate legal counsel." That mandate was founded on the judgment that "equal access to the system of justice in our Nation" must be provided for all.
With funds provided by Congress, the LSC distributed grants to legal services programs throughout the country, including the program at Antioch School of Law.
