Several young fishing folks in the locality help a boat owner place a log support underneath his large fishing vessel in this scene which concretely shows that "bayanihan" spirit is still alive.

The "bayanihan" is a Filipino custom derived from a Filipino word “bayan”, which means nation, town or community. The term itself literally means “being in a bayan”, which refers to the spirit of communal unity, work and cooperation to achieve a particular goal.

Insect photographer can be sometimes more cooperative than his models. My old car is used so rarely that it serves mainly as an unusual (but photogenic) environment for several wasp families/nests last years.

Here 2 of them are cooling the nest located beneath with their wings - in the gap between the back door and the rooftop (Fiat Stilo, 2004 model).

This picture is #1 in my 100 strangers project. Find out more about the project and see pictures taken by other photographers at the 100 Strangers Flickr Group page

This post marks the beginning of my participation in the group "100 Strangers." The concept is to take 100 portraits of strangers you approach for an impromptu photo session! Fellow participants in the group share not only their photos but also their learning experiences - and the motto of the group is "learning by doing." It seems a perfect way for me to improve my people skills, practice portrait photography and build my portrait portfolio!

Getting started was a bit of a struggle, though! Three times I had already specifically gone out to find my first stranger but never approached anybody. Mostly, I was preoccupied with the worry that I might not deliver a good photo. By the third time, I had discovered that Azalea Park in Brookings was an excellent location I intended to use. So for my fourth outing I returned there and practiced on Blanca with my new reflector. :) That gave me some confidence as I was liking the results.

While Blanca rested in the shaded car, I spotted a sweet young couple walking through the park and decided on them. Trying not to look at them with a predatory stare as they approached, I checked my camera ... and when I looked up again, they had gone down another path! So I was trying to find somebody else but couldn't quite find the right one.

And then that young couple came my way again! This time I approached them and they were super friendly and willing. Haley's boyfriend encouraged her to be my stranger #1 (obviously a big fan of her beauty) and I offered to also take a picture of both of them. He told me his name and even spelled it, but unfortunately I have to say that I just didn't register it (sorry!!! please tell me!). Anyway, he had his own camera on his shoulder and assisted me kindly in holding the reflector. They are visiting from Grants Pass. I didn't manage much of a conversation so that's really all I know about them. I liked the color of Haley's top and how it complemented all the greens and she was very easy to photograph! Thank you both so much for your cooperation and for making my first stranger portrait a very pleasant experience! :) Email me and I'll send you the originals. I hope you're happy with them.

Addendum: Haley let me know her boyfriend's name is Anthony and they loved the pictures!

A Chilly Morning in Bradgate Park -

Despite the freezing 0°C temperature this morning, I couldn’t resist heading out for a photo tour. The grey winter skies, often caused by increasingly frequent storms due to climate change, can be quite discouraging. However, the soft, glowing hues of the early morning sun always have a magical effect on nature, enhancing every frame we capture and bringing joy to photography enthusiasts like myself. Even the simple act of saying good morning feels different on a bright, sunny day.

Living near the historic Bradgate Park is truly a privilege. As I stepped into the park and took a short five-minute walk, I came across two fallow deer fawns (Dama dama) wandering alone, separated from their herd. Without my camouflage cover, I had to move carefully, stepping only on the damp, soft leaves to avoid making any noise. My 1.4x teleconverter wasn’t attached to my 500mm lens, and attempting to change it would have startled them.

As I observed, a group of jackdaws landed on one of the fawns, searching for ticks and other insects in its fur. It was a beautiful display of interspecies cooperation, and I was delighted to witness this moment of solidarity. Both seemed quite at ease, and the interaction lasted for about two minutes. The young fawn was busy with its morning meal and didn’t allow the jackdaws near its neck. Eventually, it leapt slightly, signaling that it had had enough, and the two little companions trotted back toward their family.

Although it wasn’t the exact shot I had envisioned, I plan to work on this subject in the coming weeks and hope to capture even better frames. One particularly striking moment was when a jackdaw perched near the tail of a fallow deer, beautifully framed against the golden bokeh created by the sunlight reflecting in the background.

During my four-hour tour, I also managed to photograph another fallow deer cautiously keeping an eye on me, maintaining a safe distance. And of course, no trip to Bradgate Park would be complete without capturing my favorite small bird—the European Robin (Erithacus rubecula)! I included three different poses of this charming little bird as well.

Now, I leave you with the nine images I uploaded to my Flickr account this afternoon. Thank you all for your comments, favorites, and support. Wishing you a great evening!

Fallow Deer Fawn (Dama dama)

The Fallow Deer (Dama dama) is one of the most recognizable and widespread deer species in the UK, known for its beautiful spotted coat. Its fawns are particularly charming and are a favorite subject for wildlife photographers.

Identification

Size: At birth, fawns weigh approximately 4-5 kg.

Coat:

Newborn fawns have a light brown coat with prominent white spots that provide camouflage in grassy or woodland areas.

As they mature, the spots may fade but are still visible in the summer coat of adults.

Eyes: Large, dark eyes that enhance their endearing appearance.

Behavior

Birth Season: Fawns are typically born between May and July.

Hiding: For the first few weeks, fawns remain hidden in tall grass or woodland undergrowth, relying on their spotted coat for camouflage. They remain motionless when predators or humans are nearby.

Dependence on Mother: Fawns nurse from their mothers and stay close to them for protection. By autumn, they begin grazing more independently but remain within the safety of the herd.

Habitat

Fallow deer are found in parks, open grasslands, and woodlands across the UK. Managed deer parks like Bradgate Park and Richmond Park are excellent places to observe them.

Diet

Fawns primarily rely on their mother’s milk during the first 8-10 weeks.

As they grow, they begin to graze on grasses, herbs, and leaves.

Conservation Status

Fallow deer are not native to the UK but were introduced by the Romans or Normans.

They are now naturalized and thrive in many areas, often managed in parks to prevent overpopulation.

Their conservation status is of "Least Concern."

Interesting Facts

Fawns are born with no scent, which helps them avoid detection by predators.

Their characteristic spots are most prominent during the first months of life.

Fallow deer are known for their seasonal coat changes, with darker coats in winter and lighter, spotted coats in summer.

Where to Spot Them in the UK

Bradgate Park, Richmond Park, and Knole Park are some of the best places to see Fallow Deer and their fawns in their natural habitat. Early morning or late afternoon is ideal for observing their activities.

I've captured some unforgettable moments with my camera, and I hope you feel the same joy viewing these images as I did while shooting them.

With cooperation of the weather and moonrise, I was finally able to make it out to my favorite dark site to photograph comet Lovejoy. As Murphy's law would dictate; the moment I arrived, clouds began to roll in. I was fortunate to get in a few shots before the eleven degree (F) temperatures and cloud cover began to take their toll. This photo was a stack of nine 30 second exposures (Canon T2i, Canon 100 mm f/2 lens @ f/3.2, ISO 1600). It was amazing how easy the comet was to spot with the unaided eye from a dark site.

'Verisimilitude', an exhibition by Felix Luque Sanchez in cooperation with Damien Gernay and Inigo Bilbao Lopategui.

'Felix Luque Sanchez (Oviedo, Spain, 1976) is an artist whose work explores how humans conceive their relationship with technology and provides spaces for reflection on current issues such as the development of artificial intelligence and automatism. Using electronic and digital systems of representation, as well as mechatronic sculptures, generative sound scores, live data feeds and algorithmic processes, he creates narratives in which fiction blends with reality, suggesting possible scenarios of a near future and confronting the viewer with her fears and expectations about what machines can do.'

I am grateful from the bottom of my heart.

There are two reasons why a person faces the sea.

One, to enjoy a slice of shine in the sea like children bubbling over in the beach.

The other, to brush the dust of memory like an old man who misses old days, staring at the shine

quietly.

Those lead to only one meaning though they do not seem to overlap. It’s a rebirth.

I face myself to change tomorrow, a vague day into something certain.

That is the meaning of a rebirth.

I had a very sweet girlfriend when I was 18.

After she left, I knew the meaning of gentleness for the first time and also a true pain of loss. After

she left, how many times did I depend too much on her, doubt her, envy her and keep on telling lies

until I realized it is love?

I wonder whether a nobody like me could have given something to her who was struggling in the

daily life in those days. Giving something is arrogant conceit. It is nothing but self-satisfaction.

I had been thinking about such a thing.

However, I guess what she saw in me was because I had nothing. That‘s why she tried to see

something in me. Perhaps she found a slight possibility in me, a guy filled with ambiguous, unstable

tomorrow. But I wasted days depending too much on her gentleness.

Now I finally can convey how I felt in those days when we met.

Cooperation between the NDC and the US. Navy and Marines for stability in the North Atlantic and Arctic regions have seen increased cooperation between the RNoAF and USMC Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadrons, both using AH-1Z Viper attack helicopters and Bell UH-1Y Venoms or 412 Arapahos in similar fashions.

On Tuesday January 21st Hy-Vee cooperation announced that they will be closing 79 Whalburgers locations across the Midwest. Hy-Vee will be replacing them with the in store "Market Grill"

Today I stopped in at the Lakeville location to have one last Double Decker burger.

Anarcho-collectivism relies on cooperation and mutual aid, rather than hierarchies and force. Unfortunately, the rest of the world has not yet reached this idyllic stage of government. Also there's a giant sign hovering in the sky that says PvP Enabled, idk what's up with that.

Therefore, Lemunesia must take up arms to defend itself. Unlike the densely-populated nations of Azia and Kalonesia, the collectivist islands tend to be sparsely populated. While densely-populated Oyashima can recruit merely 1% of its population to form a vast army, every citizen of the Collectives must be ready to serve if the need arises. Every age and gender, if physically and mentally able, trains with their friends and neighbors to defend their communities and liberate the oppressed abroad, while those unable to fight prepare to contribute in other ways, from industry to logistics to coast-watchers. Luckily, the brave collectivists are not alone: the crabkin kingdoms of Salkrikrator overlap with Lemunesia beneath the waves. These anthropomorphic crustaceans were hunted and persecuted under the last several monarchs, but after the Revolution, the collectives sent gifts and peace offerings to bring the crabkin back to their coral homes. Now, young crab-kin come ashore to help the collectives in times of war, and the aquatic and terrestrial societies exchange fish, deep-water minerals, and pearls for forged and machined metal.

Though most Lemunesian islands are too small for mechanized maneuver warfare, the value of an armored and well-armed vehicle that could transition from the surf to the jungle eventually became too obvious to ignore. Soldiers dubbed the resulting prototype Mekala Niu, or Metal Coconut, for its rounded cast-iron hull and turret. Though initially intended to be produced as a medium tank, it turns out tank destroyers are just kind of better at most parts of being tanks than medium tanks are, so the Mekala Niu is being registered as a tank destroyer with the appropriate international publications.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I've had this sitting in LDD for a few weeks now. At first I wanted to do a full diorama with tracks in the sand, but then LDD crashed when I tried to move a palm tree and I lost motivation. The palm trees are probably similar to techniques I've seen in the past, especially the upside-down dark tan bushes, but I can't remember who used them. If you're the original creator, nice job, comment and I'll add credits where due.
The tank started as a Sherman, because I went to a living history re-enactment in March and realized they looked better in person than in photos. The suspension was the first part I did. My first design was way too big for a minifig, like 1.5 scale height-wise, so I shrunk it down to the right dimensions. However, that left the suspension too tall, and plus I was already running into issues with the front fenders and the ugly ridges when you stack one-brick-high slopes (the same problem Chek ran into with another American tank). Then the lovely people of D&C started roasting my Sherman attempt, so I decided to roll with the curviness of my turret and make a hull to match that's shorter than a Sherman's hull but fits better on top of this higher-than-scale suspension. I feel like it's a little flat on the sides, which is why I added the roller-skates for detail. If I revisit this or do a group render later, I'm probably gonna try to add some ropes/spare treads/tactical logs on the sides and front glacis to break up those big smooth surfaces.
However, I'm probably not gonna be re-rendering this any time soon, because… the 2x2x1 corner bow pieces on the turret are not in Mecabricks, so I had to import them from Stud.io and then spend hours banging my head in frustration trying to get them to line up on the model. The Roman shield on the mantlet isn't even in Stud.io. Luckily Cagerrin helped me out by getting the 3d model of the shield from LDraw and importing all the missing parts. Turns out if I wanna pose a complex vehicle at a cool, dynamic angle that isn't 90 degrees to the grid, I should do that in Blender, or move the rest of the scene around the vehicle. This caused us both a lot of unnecessary frustration. Blender's a powerful program, but it's so unintuitive to me and so rife with hidden keybinds and menus. Rip.
A cropped shot for you to inspect, because Flickr won't zoom in properly on stupidbig renders and Discord won't upload anything bigger than 8 MB. Thanks for watching.
Turkey was involved to get cooperation.
The Shalimar Gardens (Urdu: شالیمار باغ), sometimes written Shalamar Gardens, were built by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in Lahore, modern day Pakistan. Construction began in 1641 A.D. (1051 A.H.) and was completed the following year. The project management was carried out under the superintendence of Khalilullah Khan, a noble of Shah Jahan's court, in cooperation with Ali Mardan Khan and Mulla Alaul Maulk Tuni.
The Shalamar Gardens are laid out in the form of an oblong parallelogram, surrounded by a high brick wall, which is famous for its intricate fretwork. The gardens measure 658 meters north to south and 258 meters east to west. In 1981, Shalimar Gardens was included as a UNESCO World Heritage Site along with the Lahore Fort, under the UNESCO Convention concerning the protection of the world's cultural and natural heritage sites in 1972.
The three level terraces of the Gardens
The Gardens have been laid out from south to north in three descending terraces, which are elevated by 4-5 metres (13-15 feet) above one another. The three terraces have names in Urdu as follows:
The upper terrace named Farah Baksh meaning Bestower of Pleasure.
The middle terrace named Faiz Baksh meaning Bestower of Goodness.
The lower terrace named Hayat Baksh meaning Bestower of life.
Shah Nahar : Irrigation of the Gardens
To irrigate the Gardens, a canal named Shah Nahar meaning Royal canal, later also known as Hansti canal, meaning Laughing canal was brought from Rajpot (present day Madhpur in India), a distance of over 161 kilometers. The canal intersected the Gardens and discharged into a large marble basin in the middle terrace.
410 fountains
From this basin, and from the canal, rise 410 fountains, which discharge into wide marble pools. The surrounding area is rendered cooler by the flowing of the fountains, which is a particular relief for visitors during Lahore's blistering summers, with temperature sometimes exceeding 120 degrees fahrenheit. It is a credit to the ingenuity of the Mughal engineers that even today scientists are unable to fathom how the fountains were operated originally. The distribution of the fountains is as follows:
The upper level terrace has 105 fountains.
The middle level terrace has 152 fountains.
The lower level terrace has 153 fountains.
All combined, the Gardens therefore have 410 fountains.
Water cascades
The Gardens have 5 water cascades including the great marble cascade and Sawan Bhadoon.
The buildings of the Gardens include:
Sawan Bhadum pavilions
Naqar Khana and its buildings
Khwabgah or Sleeping chambers
Hammam or Royal bath
The Aiwan or Grand hall
Aramgah or Resting place
Khawabgah of Begum Sahib or Dream place of the emperor's wife
Baradaries or summer pavilions to enjoy the coolness created by the Gardens' fountains
Diwan-e-Khas-o-Aam or Hall of special & ordinary audience with the emperor
Two gateways and minarets in the corners of the Gardens
Some of the varieties of trees that were planted included:
Almond
Apple
Apricot
Cherry
Gokcha
Mango
Mulberry
Peach
Plum
Poplar
Quince Seedless
Sapling of Cypress
Shrubs
Sour & sweet oranges
Numerous other varieties of odoriferous (fragrant) and non odoriferous and fruit giving plants
The site of the Shalimar Gardens originally belonged to one of the noble Zaildar families in the region, well known as Mian Family Baghbanpura. The family was also given the Royal title of 'Mian' by the Mughal Emperor, for its services to the Empire. Mian Muhammad Yusuf, then the head of the Mian family, donated the site of Ishaq Pura to the Emperor Shah Jahan, after pressure was placed on the family by the royal engineers who wished to build on the site due to its good position and soil. In return, Shah Jahan granted the Mian family governance of the Shalimar Gardens. The Shalimar Gardens remained under the custodianship of this family for more than 350 years.
In 1962, the Shalimar Gardens were nationalised by General Ayub Khan because leading Mian family members had opposed his imposition of martial law in Pakistan.
The Mela Chiraghan festival used to take place in the Gardens, until President Ayub Khan ordered against it in 1958.
The Shalimar Gardens are located near Baghbanpura along the Grand Trunk Road some 5 kilometers northeast of the main Lahore city.
