Candid eye contact street photography from Glasgow, Scotland. I hope that you all had a great weekend. Enjoy!
After a little bit of consideration, this is my favorite shot from my lunchtime chase on Monday. Along with the Wabash, it's got all the things that makes the CP interesting here in town: searchlights, pole line, and the funky multi-directional crossing signal. At first I was disappointed that this was the leader instead of the Pennsy that ran across the IAIS this day, but then I realized something: This could be the first time that "the Wabash" has run through Ottumwa since the railroad left town in the 70s.
From time to time I am considering selling my Olympus E-P3, just to have less cameras in the closet, to keep only the most used ones...but...I really like the special rendering out of this camera. Plus, the body itself is super cool and ergonomically awesome to use. So it stays.
I have the same with Olympus E-450, which is the first in queue to sell and Panasonic G5 which is second in a row.
I would love to keep all of them, to feed my collector's soul, but having too much cameras is distracting as I found.
(Up for your consideration dear Dale)

An important consideration when deciding to convert a wildlife shot to black and white is whether it adds or detracts from the original image. I would also say - does it make you pause a bit longer to look at it too?

This picture is #26 in the 100 Strangers Project - Round 3
Meet Michelly.
Its been a long time that I have shot a stranger portrait no surprises given the pandemic and lockdown situation over the last year.
Although I have done a few paid sessions over the last few months with all safety considerations, in all honesty I have really missed the strangers project.
So the other day when I was at the gym and I happened to notice Michelly walk by working out focused on her routine, it was difficult to ignore the temptation of attempting another stranger portrait. Coincidentally this was the same location I had photographed my very first stranger, Ariel, few short years ago. It was a extra daunting challenge approaching a stranger especially in these times and having a meaningful interaction. Plus with the masks its not always easy to create a connection. But I took a chance and finding a quiet moment approached Michelly and made my request. Luckily after hearing me out and viewing my work on the phone she agreed to be a part of the project. After she completed her workout we headed outside and did a few pics just behind the gym.
Michelly undoubtedly is a beautiful woman. But even more impressive is just the way she carries herself - her poise and striking personality showing through even with a mask on. In fact, she may have had some hesitation given that she had just finished her workout and wasn't really ready for a photoshoot - sweat, hair messed up and all. But somewhere I felt that is what would make the pictures raw and real and she had the looks and the attitude to carry it off. To her credit she still went ahead with the pics showing great confidence and trusting me on the thinking. The extremely cold weather and wind didnt help matters much. But Michelly was extremely comfortable on camera pulling of some strong poses effortlessly and with great attitude - even as we chatted and learned a little more about her.
A Brazilian by birth, she recently became a proud US citizen. I was actually surprised to know is a mother to a 17 year old teenager. She is a software developer working freelance with website development and a host of technologies - indeed beauty with brains. Her favorite quality about herself is her determination - which she believes is really important. Her favorite memory that she looks with a lot of fondness is the birth of her daughter. Michelly has diverse set of hobbies with varied interests including website/application development, spending time with family, reading, horse-riding, visiting the beach and practicing Brazilian jujitsu (this didn't surprise me actually just based on the way she moved).
Thanks much Michelly for being a part of the project and for the time and trust - it was great making your acquaintance. Hope you like the pictures.

Excerpt from en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gyeongbokgung:
Gyotaejeon (交泰殿), also called Gyotaejeon Hall, is a building used as the main residing quarters by the queen during the Joseon Dynasty. The building is located behind Gangnyeongjeon, the king's quarters, and contains the queen's bed chamber. It was first constructed in around 1440, the 22nd year of King Sejong the Great.
King Sejong, who was noted to have a frail health later in his reign, decided to carry out his executive duties in Gangnyeongjeon, where his bed-chamber is located, instead of Sajeongjeon. Since this decision meant many government officials routinely needed to visit and intrude Gangnyeongjeon, King Sejong had Gyotaejeon built in consideration of his wife the queen's privacy.
The building was burned down in 1592 when the Japanese invaded Korea, but was reconstructed in 1867. Nevertheless, when Daejojeon of Changdeokgung Palace was burned down by a fire in 1917, the Japanese government disassembled the building and recycled its construction materials to restore Daejojeon. The current building was reconstructed in 1994 according to its original design and specifications. The building, like Gangnyeongjeon, does not have a top roof ridge called yongmaru.

Here you can see the backs of the two of them.
Tetsuo-san and Yoko-san.
In fact, since I met them 40 years ago,
they introduced me to many contemporary artists, interior designers, and businesses.
After that, due to various circumstances, there was a gap of about 20 years,
but recently we have begun to enjoy museums, movies, and music together.
Their kind consideration will last forever. Thank you.
With much care and consideration, and through the proper channels I mind you, I gained permission from the Department of General Administration to come on the campus of the old Northern State Hospital. There are very strict rules one must abide by to photograph these wonderful buildings, and careful attention was tended as I made my way throughout the grounds. I can’t begin to describe how peaceful the campus was, despite the fact that it is an active campus, currently housing Job Corps. There was a slight chill in the air and a trace of snow cover on the ground. The halls, dorms, quarters, chapel, and main hospital are glorious, though underutilized, lying fallow, wanting and waiting for a much need resurgence. It is said that time, patience, and perseverance will accomplish all... in the case of Northern State, it is a shame that such a wonderful institution was ever closed in the first place.
These photographs are being used for a souvenir booklet to be eventually sold at the Sedro-Woolley Museum... stop by for a visit when you’re in town and peek to see if it is available!
For your entertainment and consideration on this week's episode of CrAzY TuEsdAy is the heretical FranKenKaMerA where I installed the lens/shutter off my $26.81 No. 1 Pocket Kodak onto the front of a Polaroid Land Camera J66. Why would I do this? After a couple hours of trying to patch holes in the bellows on the recently acquired Kodak, I conceded it was toast. I had the J66 just laying around, figuring someday I'd find a lens to stick on the front of it. The hole was just slightly smaller than the Kodak lens required, so only a little grinding with a Dremel stone was necessary to make it fit. The J66 has detents for landscape and portrait focus each - both were too close to the film plane for the Kodak lens; however, the J66 bellows can be extended further where it locks into place. When set there, and with a piece of 4x5 sheet film stuffed in the back, it just so happens to be set to the hyperlocal distance for the Kodak lens. I've got a sheet of HP5+ in there right now, and I'll give it a go soon. Gonna try a night shot with it.
Photo taken by my Sony a7 with a bokeh master Canon 55mm ƒ1.2 lens set wide open on the front.
In time, I'll get around to replacing the bellows in the No. 1 Pocket Kodak.
Yeah I know, this isn't a pretty picture; but hopefully, very soon, it'll take pretty pictures.

Aussichten danach, wenn der Vorhang wieder auf ist.
Prospects thereafter, when the curtain is back on.
My degree ended with a consideration of what my work could look like in the future. I came up with an idea for a series called "Unreliable Narrator" where I would attempt to capture uncomfortable night time scenes and write a description at odds with that discomfort, mainly discussing my positive response to each scene.
I think most people would avoid a completely dark alleyway at night these days. In my local area it was actually a task to find one without a light - so that's good, I guess? The torch seems to amplify the absolute blackness surrounding it. Really creepy.

"With no consideration, no pity, no shame,
they have built walls around me, thick and high.
And now I sit here feeling hopeless.
I can't think of anything else: this fate gnaws my mind -
because I had so much to do outside.
When they were building the walls, how could I not have noticed!
But I never heard the builders, not a sound.
Imperceptibly they have closed me off from the outside world."

Konstandinos Kawafis: "Mury"
After much thought and consideration, I have decided that it is time for me to move on to other interests. I am retiring from On9, effective immediately, Mui Mukerji is the new owner of On9.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank every one of you for your ongoing support, encouragement and patience for group Le PonPon and myself in the past few years, especially those who have been with me since day one. Those sweet memories will always stay in my heart.
I wish you all the very best in the year ahead and I will for sure see you around.

The Sculpture Garden at the Norval Foundation features three-dimensional installations by artists from South Africa and the rest of Africa. The unique site, bisected by a protected Cape lowland freshwater wetland and surrounded by the natural beauty of the Western Cape, features flora indigenous to the area. The placement of artwork takes the site into consideration, using the contours of the garden to hide and reveal work, creating an experience of discovery for the viewer.

All things taken into consideration, her life is a happy one.
I was bad compromise with her. I refused the money for college from the mother. I did not want to make the IOU to her. I was graduated from the University of Arts in scholarship and part-time-job. Repayment was the tough thing. However, across all of the cats Rainbow Bridge. The next.

I opted for the stockier DC Universe Classics version of Batman Beyond here, figuring the Multiverse one is more the Terry version.
Sometimes you must hand over your camera to strangers and ask that they get as much of your face in the shot as they can. Here we did just that and were lucky to have what you see.
Alina is as beautiful as ever, though the impact her eyes usually have over a man's soul is not recorded well in this image. I, Cristian Ioja, feel a day older and since I'm not approaching the age of 27, it does not really matter anymore. It is clear to me now that the shape a man is in, dictates how old he feels.
There are other considerations, Groucho was not the first to suggest it, but I shall keep those to myself.
Speaking of statements made by Mr. Marx, here is one of my favorites, "Die, my dear? Why that's the last thing I'll do!"
Back in the film days there were many considerations in selecting what film to load.
The obvious choices were black & white negatives, color transparency (slides) or color negatives and the selection would depend on the use case. Even within each group there was a long list of manufactures, film speed, color balance, etc.
When it came to black & white film, by far the most artistic choice was infrared film.
This image is such an example. Film was Kodak high speed infrared film. Required an almost opaque red filter on the lens.
Lens is most likely Pentax 55mm f1.8

This creative shoot took some careful consideration, especially as it involved photographing people using long exposures in almost complete darkness. Conditions were not ideal and due to freezing temperatures, we only made one attempt at shooting this. Nevertheless the results were pleasing. The final image comprises of four separate shots layered in Photoshop with surprisingly very little editing. Thanks for looking – Mk.
Europe, Portugal, Tejo, Setubal, Barreiro, Almada, Cacilhas, Tejo, Cais do Ginjal, Olho de Boi, Ponte 25 de Abril (slightly cut from B)
The final part of the Cais do Ginhal (the post-industrial northern edge of Lisbon’s ‘outra banda’) ends in the Olho de Boi - ‘The Oxe's eye’. It was once was the HQ of the Companhia Portugesa de Pesca (CPP) here. In its days the company was one of the major fishing companies of Portugal. At its peak it owned 25 ships, employed 700 workers and had extensive cold storage and technical facilities. It even had on site housing (a 'barrio social') for its workers. The companhia was nationalized in 1976 and dissolved in 1984.
In the BG is the Ponte 25 de Abril (1966). It took the New Yorker Steel International Inc and its co-contractors 4 years to build this suspension bridge at a cost of 32 million US dollars. It shares quite a lot of design characteristics with the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. This bridge was, by the way, designed as a two-deck bridge, too, but due to cost and engineering considerations, it was changed to a single-deck design.
It was inaugurated in 1966 as the 'Salazar Bridge', named after the dictator who had it built. It was later renamed to commemorate the bloodless 'Carnation Revolution' that happened on the 25th of April 1974.
It has two decks now. On the top 5 lane deck the car, busses and lorries pass and on the lower deck, the trains do. From the outset, the bridge was designed to carry a railway on the lower deck. In summer 1999 the lower railway deck was ready for use after major preparatory works which included the fitting of additional cables and the widening of the roadway to six lanes, as well as repainting of the bridge. Due to the extra weight, the bridge sank some centimetres. The "retro-fit" of the railway track was the largest such project undertaken on a bridge in the world. A Fertagus shuttle train is to be discerned on it.
The whole stretch of the quay (including Olho de Boi) will be redeveloped/transformed. The planning process took 10 years. And some months ago a final decision was made to start with the actual works. All the old industrial facilities will be affected. Like the Hugo Parry & Sons shipbuilding- and repair workshops: here and here.
The functions to be realized in the revitalization plan are, not surprisingly: creative industry, recreational facilities and accommodations for the performing arts. Check out: Novo Cais do Ginjal.
This is number 185 of the Lisboa & Outra banda album and 5 of Fish factory (Olho de Boi).

Howse River was named in honour of Joseph Howse, the first of the fir traders to reach this area. This route leads across the Rocky Mountains and was used by the native peoples for many years. Consideration was given to the possibility of constructing a railway over this pass in the late 1800s but that idea was dropped. Today, the route is rarely travelled and is perhaps more remote now than it has ever been.
