The Quran describes the oppressor or tyrant as "deaf, dumb and blind", which is essentially the spiritual reality of the tyrant. He cannot hear the cries of his victims; he cannot communicate with those he oppresses because he imperiously views them as representatives of a lower order of being than himself, and thus as mere commodities to be exploited or, even worse, as plagues to be cleansed; and he cannot see the harm he does. Aristotle (d. 322 BC) reminds us that all tyrants invariably surround themselves with sycophants because they cannot bear the truth. But the tyrant also needs these sycophants because he demands tacit approval of his beliefs and actions, and most of all he fears an honest and critical view of himself. The more the tyrant's power grows, the less he tolerates dissent. What is true of the tyrant is also true of the tyrannical nation. He demands that everyone agree with him and affirm his position because he cannot see, hear or speak to anyone but himself. He believes that his vision is clear, his understanding is unsurpassed, and his words, and only his words, are worthy of utterance or consideration. As human beings, only through others can we truly see ourselves, hear ourselves and talk to ourselves; but in his fixation on himself the tyrant is totally incapable of such reflection.

Thank you my friends for your support here on Flickr. I have realised that I need to try to find new ways and approaches to my photographic work. Currently I don't think I will stop posting images here, but I think I will slow down the pace. Maybe there will only be one, two or three pictures a week, maybe pictures on completely new themes. Probably the Flickr algorithm won't particularly endorse that, but I won't take that into consideration, it's only about my creativity. I am grateful for comments and your future support.

We arrive at Carrasqueira / the Kermes Oak. It is a stone wall, almost entirely smooth, 35 meters (114,83 ft) high. It is considered an easy, first-degree climb, with the proper equipment.

In ten minutes, I overcome the wall; in less than half an hour I am at the top of Pedra da Gávea and I sent an SMS “I got at the top”.

Any turn of the trail does not deserve great consideration: the path is known and, downhill, all the saints help. But the journey back from Pedra da Gávea is much more tiring than expected. The knees need to act as a shock absorber, receiving a load equivalent to 3.5 times the weight of the human body.

Citadel ('Tvrđa' in Croatian) of the city of Osijek, Croatia

It is the best-preserved and largest ensemble of Baroque buildings in Croatia and a unique example of an eighteenth-century military, administrative, and commercial urban center, as described by the World Monuments Fund.

After the fortress's military importance decreased at the end of the 19th century, Tvrđa became the center of administrative, educational, cultural, and scholarly life in Osijek and the entire region. The first school in Osijek was organized at Tvrđa and the first printing press started working in 1735. The significance of educational institutions of Tvrđa are best underlined by the fact that Croatian Nobel Prize laureates, Lavoslav Ružička and Vladimir Prelog, along with Serbian scientist Milutin Milanković (Milankovitch cycles), were all alumni (graduates) of the Tvrđa schools.

Tvrđa is on UNESCO's 'Tentative List' for consideration as a World Heritage Site.

The world has been tipped upside down with Covid and some of us are trapped in situations beyond our control. Stress and Depression are serious issues and our mental health is often brushed aside without proper consideration of the impact it has on us further down the line.

It can be really hard to ask for help when your feeling low, but help is out there, and that hlep wants you to talk to them, they really do.

Those not feeling low, lets do our best to love and look out for one another, and if you can pass on a smile to a stranger it can make all the difference to their day. Smiles can be seen through masks, their in our eyes too, and a smile is more contagious than Covid... So I will make sure my next picture will be a happy one.

It's a time for everything.

It's always a time for afterthought, I sure have done that this year.

It's a wonder that I still have one or two brain cells left, lol.

Brain cells aren't used only for work.

Difficult tasks within can blow your mind away.

Why is that?

When you are at work you use your brain in a relatively calm, rational way, it's mostly based on knowledge.

When you are dealing with your inner being you will touch your feelings as soon as you open the door only a tiny bit.

And that hurts.

We normally don't like to be hurt.

Therefore we leave things to be instead of dealing with them, even though you know that you do things in a way you know isn't proper for you or others.

And then you are stuck.

It only gets worse, it never gets fixed without your attention.

Somehow the problem keeps growing and will become like a domino, leaving you with even more tasks to deal with, but the same problem is there like a basis, a foundation, it just transforms into different shapes.

"The story of my life..", you can think, "Why am I always so unlucky?"

Giving it attention is the same as giving the problem light.

Darkness is never a solution.

Light is.

Attention can be done in many ways. When you first are aware of that something is wrong, then you have taken the first step.

We all deal with our stuff in different ways.

The most important is that you actually deal with it.

Some don't need dwelling, back an forth, some know exactly what to do and proceed.

Some needs breaks in thinking, to let it all mature and when the time is right, they do what they need to do.

I'm a slow one, taking into consideration all and everything.

But when I know I'm right, I act like a tsunami. 2018 has been filled with emotional tsunamis, followed by action and intuition.

Tsunami after tsunami.

My tsunamis are like fire in the forest, my foundation gets cleansed, purified and leaving me with a new respect and love for myself and leaving me ready for new adventures.

The unknown is always a nice pillow, we can make many excuses to just be left stuck.

We often don't see that we are doing just that.

Time for heavy food has been and is definitely over for me, for a long time.

Heavy food can make me sleepy and slow in my body and mind.

I can feel the urge of going for a hike instead of eating the dessert.

But I'm not rude, so of course I don't do that, lol.

The company I have had this Christmas was just as perfect as it should be.

Everyone was thankful for the nice time we could have together, everyone in a good mood.

One special person was missing, but this year has indeed been an adventurous year and we all needed to end the year in this way.

I'm thankful for what has been.

I'm thankful for what is.

I'm thankful for what is to come.

Dear diary, thanks for listening to me this year 😁 I will continue in 2019, I promise, lol.

My journey isn't over yet.

The historic Cookeville Railroad Depot (constructed circa 1909) seen at sunset. The Depot was nominated for the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) under criteria A & C for its architectural and historical significance in Cookeville & Putnam County, Tennessee. Architecturally, the depot is significant as a fine example of a vernacular type of railroad depot design in the Upper Cumberland region of Tennessee. Historically, the depot played a significant role in the development of rail transportation in Putnam County and in the development of Cookeville, especially the west section of the city. It was not only the impetus for the development of West Cookeville but was, for many years, the major form of transportation in the region. While the depot has undergone few alterations over the years, it continues to retain its historical & architectural integrity.

The Cookeville Railroad Depot was added to the NRHP on November 7, 1985. All the information above was found in the original documents submitted for listing consideration found here:

Laurent Trezegnies’s sculptures are largely conditioned by a consideration of places of intervention and by a desire to modify the way in which they may be understood. For Art Public Liège, he developed an installation using lashing straps stretched between the base of the two piers of the Saucy footbridge and the structure of its deck. The red lines thus define two beams which radiate upwards. There are games with the presence of the river: oppositions with the blackness of its waters; reflections with its surface; of resonances with the movement of waves. “I work on the expressive richness of the line, on its interpretations. With a piece like this, I question how drawing can be applied to environmental forms to expand, renew, enrich the perception of the place and offer a new vibration. As in most of my interventions, the materials are industrial, those whose expressive power is generally held to be non-existent. In addition, the straps modify the frequency of the wind and bring a sound dimension. "

Shadows and Light, A careful consideration of light's impact on color is reflected in the work of the masters of the Venetian School period. Whereas other movements would mimic the actual color of a subject as a whole, Venetian colorists would incorporate the subtle shifts of hue caused by the reflected light on the subject with their unique layering and blending techniques. With the interplay of shadows and light across a subject, traditional Venetian color application suggests form without sharp edges, creating a difficult to achieve sense of depth and realism.

After much time and consideration, I'm calling this a Glaucon Blue (Euphilotes Glaucon), which is a rarity and a life butterfly! I also think it's a distinct species and not part of the Dotted Blue Complex, but apparently there's some debate over that.

I have to admit that this is not the photo I was going for on that day. I was visiting the island of Maui in Hawaii and I had planned to spend the sunset hour at one of the beaches of the west side of the island, for obvious reasons! I picked Ka'anapali beach which is the main beach of Lahaina. The sky was cloudy, I had my tripod and my ND filter with me so I was ready for a few spectacular long exposures. Well, as we say in Greek "I counted without the hotel owner" (meaning I planned without taking into consideration of other facts like ... the wind!!). So it was so windy that all the clouds were completely gone by like 30 minutes before sunset so I was left on the beach not knowing what to shoot. Unfortunately, it was a sandy beach so I couldn't go for misty waters.. and then the idea of a ghost ship popped up in my mind as a little earlier I was listening one of the songs from Pirates of the Carribbean Soundtrack (yes yes, I know, Hawaii is not in the Caribbean!). Those 2 are catamarans full of tourists coming back from a sunset cruise. I think I prefer the sunset I saw from the beach! :)

And here is the song that inspired me for this photo

Dear customers, dear business partners, dear friends,

I am writing to you today to inform you of an important and regrettable decision.

After careful consideration and for personal/health reasons, I have decided to permanently close the inworld shops (RM ~ Art Of Poses ~ and Top Striker) effective December 31st and cease my business operations.

The shops on the Marketplace will remain open!

I have one small surprise for everyone – more on that soon in a new post.

Believe me, this step is anything but easy for me. I deeply regret it and ask for your understanding.

I simply no longer have the strength to stock my shops with products; my illness is taking a heavy toll on me.

My special thanks go to you, my loyal customers, for the trust you have placed in me over the years.

The collaboration and the many positive encounters have always been a great enrichment for me.

Until the day of closure, I will continue to be available for you as usual. For questions about existing orders or other matters, you can reach me online as usual.

I wish you all the best for the future, much success, and good health.

And for myself, I hope I stay strong so I can continue to participate in life to some extent.

Love you all ❣️

The current state shows the buildings, in accordance with Prince Pückler's ideas, integrated into the park design through a pleasure ground. His landscape gardening considerations were based on the fact that the New Palace should be the center of all palace buildings and at the same time, together with the city, form the center of the landscape park.
