This was the youngest of 2 owlets in a local park in Calgary, Alberta where Great Horned Owls have nested for several years. This youngster didn't listen to his mother when she told him to exercise his wings before taking the leap of faith out of the nest. So when he flew out, he missed the branch and ended up on the ground. This actually gave for some fantastic photo ops as he wandered through the bushes and over logs, probably trying to figure out how he got there and how to get back to his mother!
There was some concern that he could be captured by a predator during the night because it was late evening and the sun was setting. They use their claws and beak to climb back up to a branch. A friend went back early the next morning to check on him and he was safe in a tree.
This photo is the last one I took before he fledged. He looks pretty confident doesn't he?

a close up shot with the Nikon 70-200 f4, although this lens focuses rather close, but the contrast drops exponentially when near the minimum focus distance, thus a fair amount of contrast is needed in post processing to bring back the IQ

Definitely the BMOC, or Big Man on Campus! Or, wait, no he's not a man, he's a beagle. He's the BBOC!
But there's no doubting that Snoopy is one cool cat! Hmm... nope, scratch that. He's a dog. Snoopy's one cool dog!
Everyone who watches Snoopy stride confidently across campus knows he's the bee's knees! Wait, no, not a bee for sure. The Beagle's Knees?
Being involved in all sorts of campus societies, one could say Joe Cool is an eager beaver! Oh... no, he's not a beaver. An Eager Beagle!
Ah, found the answer. Joe Cool is, without any doubt, beyond any possible dispute, the TOP DOG!

50 Years Celebration

Flambro is another of our favorite brands for the Peanuts license. We had an account with them when we had our collectibles store and Flambro never failed to delight with their colorful and innovative designs.
This series, celebrating the 50th anniversary of Snoopy (Which occured in 2000), features six figurines, each of them incredibly cute, such as Joe Cool here.
We planned to sleep somewhere outside much lower. But we were early enough and decided that the ascent on the summit of Kanin / Canin and finding a place to sleep was still possible that first day of our trip.
So, now we are heading towards the northern wall of Kanin / Canin, carrying quite heavy rucksacks. The glacier is mostly gone, but our confidence will change to doubts a bit later, at the start of the steep Ferrata Julia /Grade C).
This young lad decided to see if he could defeat the len's minimum focus distance. BTW he won :)

This satisfied looking lion is positioned outside the Utah
Capital building. We took a tour during our staycation
in Salt Lake City. We arrived early in the morning and the
place was deserted. The light was great, however, for
capturing some shots of the exterior including this lion
which appears to be looking out upon his kingdom. In
the background are blooming cherry trees and snow-
capped mountains that surround the Salt Lake Valley.

“One of the most abundant birds across North America, and one of the most boldly colored, the Red-winged Blackbird is a familiar sight atop cattails, along soggy roadsides, and on telephone wires. Glossy-black males have scarlet-and-yellow shoulder patches they can puff up or hide depending on how confident they feel. Females are a subdued, streaky brown, almost like a large, dark sparrow. In the North, their early arrival and tumbling song are happy indications of the return of spring….. Male Red-winged Blackbirds do everything they can to get noticed, sitting on high perches and belting out their conk-la-ree! song all day long. Females stay lower, skulking through vegetation for food and quietly weaving together their remarkable nests. In winter Red-winged Blackbirds gather in huge flocks to eat grains with other blackbird species and starlings….. Look for Red-winged Blackbirds in fresh and saltwater marshes, along watercourses, water hazards on golf courses, and wet roadsides, as well as drier meadows and old fields. In winter, you can find them at crop fields, feedlots, and pastures.”

The reason for the caption is because we drove to the Lower Pond Swansea Vale, teatime. Huw dropped me off at the bottom end and as I got closer to this spot , I noticed him capturing something with his phone. I couldn't get there quick enough when I realised it was this standing there so brazen - looking and stood there he did for me to get a closer shot ( next along in Photostream

Pretty confident that I've identified this one correctly. I saw it at the Queen Mary Falls in Queensland. It had quite the mouthful of grub! Guessing that there were some hungry chicks nearby awaiting lunch.

It's taken until Jack is nearly 12 before we've been confident enough to let him off his lead a bit. Even now only undef controlled conditions, clear of distractions and hazards. It great to see him running free though. This morning we had the area near the Castle of Old Wick to ourselves and Jack took full advantage.
