A spruce grouse struts confidently before me, seemingly without a care. I have often been startled when one suddenly takes flight, as the sound of its wings is quite loud. After briefly flying through the trees, the grouse brings its wings together over its back, producing two sharp claps about 0.5 seconds apart. These sounds, astonishingly, are loud enough to be heard by the human ear from a staggering 150 meters away. In addition to vocalizations, there are other non-vocal sounds made by the grouse, such as soft drumming produced by territorial males (created by the beating of their wings), a tail swish, and a whoosh made by the tail feathers during flight.

The bronze lions were Created by French sculptor ( Alfred Jacquemart ), and were meant to be guarding ( Mohammed Ali Pasha 's ) statue in Alxandria...
But the designer of the bridge engineer ( Louis Maurice Adolphe Linant de Bellefonds ) brought them to Cairo to stand guard his fantastic bridge....

I am not totally confident that Bufo spinosus should be considered a separated species from the more spread common toad (Bufo bufo) from an ecological and/or phylogenetical perspective. Yet, what I know is that this specimen, found on the borders of a fountain within my camping site, was particularly tame and coloured. The intense orange of the eyes was not the same I was used to see in toads (Bufo bufo) I commonly find in Northern Italy.
