New Compulsion Windmill and Little Branch trees at LTD. I had a productive morning I can tell :)
Taken at Bal Harbour-PRISM sim.
Here's another one from my daytime photo folder. Not as dramatic as most of posts but I need to mix it up a little every once in a while.
I took this one on my way to Gooseneck State Park, Utah. I have passed this spot 4 times and decided that I should make time for a revisit before some boy scout troop tips this thing over, Hehe. I had this amazing compulsion to want to climb up this thing and push it on over, so I can image what a group of drunk teens or some Ill managed boy scout troop could do once mob rules takes over. :)
Luckily there were some nice clouds drifting around this time. The last three times by here, the dreaded blank skies made for some uninteresting scenery.
Located between Monument Valley and the city of Bluff, in San Juan County Utah, The name "Mexican Hat" comes from this curiously sombrero-shaped, 60-foot wide by 12-foot thick, rock outcropping on the northeast edge of town. The "Hat"' has two rock climbing routes ascending to it's top.

Clarity brings perspective
When truth stares up at you
Everything is different
As I was hiking along the trail last weekend, I came to a rocky crossing through a small seasonal stream. Though flowing mostly in the shade, there was one small pool of water illuminated by rays of sunlight streaming through the forest canopy. The light and the extraordinary clarity of the water, very recently melted from pristine mountain snow, caught my eye.
While taking a couple of photos, I noticed a brilliant green color in them and when I looked more closely I realized it was a reflection of the leaves of some Maianthemum dilatatum (also known as false lily of the valley or false Solomon's seal) growing alongside the stream and catching those same rays of sunlight. Caught up in that moment as I was, their reflected beauty seemed to speak with an irresistible allure, and photographing it felt more of a compulsion than decision.
I took half a dozen shots attempting to somehow capture a fragment of that feeling, and this was my favorite of them. (I likely would have taken more had not a pair of hikers and their dog come along and splashed through the stream, muddying the waters and causing the reflection to disappear.)

As tourism increases and population centers encroach, these beautiful geologic formations are slowly being degraded by some peoples' willingness to disregard the signage that explicitly states not to climb on the formations. There have been indications that tourism to this park may soon be regulated, because of the few people that can't temper the compulsion to climb upon and take pictures on the formations.

The title is a beautiful Warren Zevon song and the name of the tribute show that led to us spending a glorious weekend in the City. Henry Wagons channelled the perfect Zevon.
At one point in the show he asked for three volunteers to come on stage to play an accidental quiz. Of course I didn’t volunteer but I should have given I probably would have won!
Unfortunately Warren suffered from OCD. One of the questions asked was what Warrens’ main compulsion was. It was buying up every single grey Calvin Klein T-shirt in a store. So if he was touring, he would sometimes be late for a concert because he would insist on travelling to all the department stores in the area, sometimes an hour away from the gig to buy out every T-shirt.

On one side there is a federal road, a feeder road, a desert of hot asphalt on which traffic passes day and night. On the other side, a field borders, with intensive agricultural use and changing monocultures. Everything is strictly according to the rules here. This is where planning, regulation and intervention take place.
And in between, on a strip maybe five meters wide, is this. The wonderful chaos of nature. It grows and thrives, which is just about time. At the moment it's poppies, cornflowers and chamomile. Basically, the picture changes from year to year, almost from day to day. A wild garden of nature surrounded by order and compulsion.
Life is harder on this strip of land and definitely more dangerous. Everyone has to take care of themselves if they want to get ahead because the laws of nature apply. But when I stand here in front of this small world, I feel peace and freedom... and longing.
Auf der einen Seite befindet sich eine Bundesstrasse, ein Autobahnzubringer, eine Wüste aus heißen Asphalt, auf der Tag und Nacht der Verkehr vorrüber zieht. Auf der anderen Seite grenzt ein Feld an, mit intensiver landwirtschaftlicher Nutzung und wechselnden Monokulturen. Hier läuft alles streng nach Vorschrift. Hier wird geplant, reguliert und interveniert.
Und dazwischen auf einem Streifen, der vielleicht fünf Meter breit ist, finden wir dies hier finden. Das wundervolle Chaos der Natur. Es wächst und gedeiht, was gerade an der Zeit ist. Im Moment sind es Mohn-, Kornblumen und Kamille. Das Bild verändert sich von Jahr zu Jahr im Grunde sogar fast von Tag zu Tag. Ein wilder Garten der Natur umringt von Ordnung und Zwang.
Das Leben ist härter auf diesem Streifen Land und bestimmt auch gefährlicher. Jeder muss sich um sich selbst kümmern, wenn er weiter kommen will denn es gelten die Gesetze der Natur. Doch wenn ich hier vor dieser kleinen Welt stehe, dann fühle ich Frieden und Freiheit ... und Sehnsucht.
