"Sometimes P. collina lacks soredia (especially when epiphytic, making it similar to P. neckeri. They both have a shiny upper surface and blackish apothecia, in contrast to the usual brown apothecia in Peltigera." - McCune, Bruce, and Geiser, Linda (2009) Macrolichens of the Pacific Northwest

Esperanza Community Services was founded by Guadalupe Reyes in 1969 as a school for children whose learning needs were not met in traditional classrooms. It now provides an alternate school for more than 60 full-time students ranging from kindergarten to 22-years-old with developmental disabilities, as well as services for around 70 adults, including in-home and at group homes in the neighborhood. The center is predominantly housed in the former St. Columbkille Catholic School at 520 N. Marshfield Ave. Since Esperanza moved into the structure in the 1970s, it has received few upgrades and major repairs. A recently received $585,230 grant will allow for renovation to commence this fall, coordinating with the ongoing school year with an estimated completion by 2024.

Organized in 1859, St. Columbkille Church was located at 1638 W. Grand Ave. In 1899, the Sisters of Providence took charge when the Holy Cross Brothers withdrew and Father Dunne invited the sisters to take charge of the boys’ school. In 1907, the sisters also took charge of the girls’ school due to the withdrawal of the Sisters of Charity. Boys and girls were in separate rooms. The grammar school for the girls developed into a full eight grades and a commercial high school. Because of the lack of available sisters, the grammar school closed in 1971. The commercial school closed in 1969. The church, since demolished, closed in 1975.

Buffalo, Montana; apparently no longer in use, the old community hall building is boarded up and deteriorating.

The Buffalo post office opened in 1890 after homesteaders established the town. The Great Northern Railroad built a branch line through the area in 1908 and established a station in Buffalo, helping to build the town into a successful community. A ten-room school was built in 1927 to serve the needs of the town and ranches in the local area. However, the Great Depression, falling crop prices, drought and other circumstances caused the town to decline as the former homesteaders were forced to leave the area. There are still a few homes, the post office is still in operation to serve the ranchers in the area and there is a church that is still active, but the town is now essentially a ghost town.

Thursday morning I took a walkabout around my 1942 Alma mater which was built in 1912.

That be what is now Oaklands School & Community Centre which was formed in 2000.

Looking online, I could not find any references to the time of my tenure: 1942-48

Mr. McKinnon was principal during most of those years and before I left for S.J. Willis High School in 1948, Horace R. Dawson (1913-2008) became principal. Horace first became a school principal in McKenzie Elementary School at age 17yrs. in 1931. He was a brilliant scholar.

Mr. Dawson (1913-2008) he was 94yrs 11 months

Horace is an Irvine descendant borne from the Mary Ann (nee Irvine) Laing family line. Mary Ann was the second-born, Irvine child in Victoria BC in 1853.

One can see from this missal that Oaklands is more than just a school to me.

Mendocino Community Library. The small victorian house, its many books and an endowment were left to Mendocino by 2 beloved local women 20-some years ago. It thrives with an all-volunteer staff and a nice budget for new books. Four times a year all are invited to donate books for book sales which augment the funds. Work is still done by hand. I heard today that digital checkout of books is on its way.

No -- this isn't what I wore to community service -- but it's what I changed into for the afternoon when we got back from packaging tortillas for the needy.

This skirt I got when I was going to school in California a few years ago at Banana Republic. It's one of my all time favorite pencil skirts. The material is a surprisingly heavy weave, and to the touch seems like it would be very stiff -- but every time I wear it I feel like it was made just for me - and makes me feel so tall and classy -- Business Sexy.

I'm very into the longer but well fitted pencil skirt. I love skirts of all types, but for work, I love pencils.

--and of course those famous pumps again.

Today we said good riddance to Talk Talk and hello to Community Fibre.

Fingers crossed there will be no more slow and intermittent broadband.

One time Greater Manchester PTE standard Atlantean 7531 had arrived at it's role as a non PSV promotional vehicle with Canterbury and Havant Community Healthcare via East Kent who had operated the vehicle for a number of years with similar examples that had been purchased secondhand at deregulation.

All it's interior had been stripped out for its new role and a retractable awning fitted to the nearside for use when the bus was being used on days much warmer than when the bus was photographed amidst a light dusting of snow.

CFR-ing again today!!

Out and about in Sheffield in my little Ford Fiesta with all my CFR-ing bits and pieces.

Also made time for a mid morning Starbucks stop! Nice!!

I am a Community First Responder for Yorkshire Ambulance Service in and around Sheffield.

It's a volunteer role not paid like when I was a Paramedic with YAS 18 months ago..

Have you thought about this sort of role?

You do not need any medical background at all!!
